The perfect high-end getaway for couples, solo travellers, or friends, you’ll love all the special details inside this stylish 1830’s convict-built stone cottage. Picture hand-carved sandstone walls, Georgian cottage windows, a vaulted ceiling with 200-year-old exposed beams, a luxurious contemporary bathtub, and cosy fireplace. Two bedrooms with King-size beds await you with deliciously cosy linen and French Consul linen cushions crafted from French flax by Irish artisans. You’ll love the quiet simplicity of our antique provincial furniture and decor. From the bedrooms, walk through the 1830’s original doorway into two beautifully appointed and comfortable lounge settings – sink into our cloud-like lounge in front of the fire or enjoy your morning tea in our linen Chesterfields gazing out to the garden. The large open plan room also includes a gorgeous country kitchen and island bench for preparing meals or enjoying a wine. The kitchen is well appointed with an oven, cooktop, fridge/freezer, microwave, pots, pans, kettle, toaster, pod coffee machine and cooking utensils. Basic pantry items such as olive oil, salt and pepper, tea and quality coffee are also provided. Enjoy your breakfast or a meal at the farmhouse table with classic Bentwood chairs or sit by the window at our expansive window seat and simply relax. Through the custom French doors, designed with a nod to Paris, you’ll love the outdoor sandstone dining table with wrought iron chairs, enveloped by a historic sandstone wall with French sconces. To the side of the kitchen is a gorgeous mudroom entrance for your boots and coats with handy access to off-street parking. Here you’ll also find a deliciously large bathroom with walk-in shower and a bathtub big enough for two. You’ll love the mix of colonial and antique French details. There are also two toilets, one in a separate powder room which features a recreated historic wallpaper found in the original cottage. There’s a fully equipped laundry with washing machine, dryer, ironing board/iron and washing powder. Aged brass tapware and an antique French laundry spout complete the look. If you visit in spring you’ll love the pretty flowering Crabapple trees, or in summer the white rose garden by the picket fence. In winter weather, cosy up by the real wood burning fire or enjoy the central heating while watching a film on the smart TV with free wifi access. From your central location of Oatlands, it’s a 30-minute or one-or-two-hour drive to so many beautiful locations to enjoy the outdoors, good food, and shopping. Or stay tucked up in Oatlands and visit our High Street boutiques and cafes, the award-winning wine and cheese bar, and whiskey distillery and restaurant. Petit Chateau is designed and decorated for adults (18 years+) only with a maximum capacity for 4 guests (two King beds). Oatlands is a beautiful historic village on the shores of Lake Dulverton in the centre of Tasmania, Australia. Oatlands is located 83 km north of Hobart and 115 km south of Launceston on the Midland Highway.
Oatlands is one of Tasmania's oldest settlements, and is Australia's largest sandstone village with over 150 convict-built sandstone buildings, including Petit Chateau!
Along the High Street you will find antique shops, cafés and bars, and Callington Mill Whiskey Distillery and restaurant.
The most prominent building in town is Callington Mill, Australia’s third-oldest windmill (1837) and now the centrepiece of the Callington Mill Distillery. There’s further architectural beauty at St Paul’s Catholic Church, which was designed by Augustus Pugin, the English architect who created Big Ben.
Pick up the 'Oatlands Key' from one of the many High St stores to tour the historic military precinct established in the late 1820s, the impressive Commissariat, Supreme Court, and Gaol.
On the edge of town is Lake Dulverton, a popular recreation spot and 7km walking trail.
From Petit Chateau, take a peaceful 5-minute stroll to the High Street or to tour the historic village sites, and there's also plenty of free High St parking.
