Second time staying at one of Emma & Mark’s amazing places. I visit York solo pretty regularly and now wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else. Their ‘Mary Tuke’ apartment is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and the location really couldn’t be better. And with parking! A brilliant place with brilliant hosts.

Initially planned to give 4 stars. The apartment, on the first floor, has a window view of a walkway. But this view overlooks a grim patch of the riverside with washed-up garbage near a tree. I am obsessive about cleanliness and I was happy and comfortable staying in this flat. It's conveniently located around the corner from a street filled with several nice pubs and restaurants. It is suitable for a short work trip or getaway for couples. The hosts were helpful up until the second night. I texted them about a sewage smell coming from the toilet. Their solution was to suggest opening the tap or shower water to eliminate it. After being out all day, it was hard to get rid of the smell which probably collected over the day. Had to sleep with the air vent on and the window slightly cracked open. This is something that should not happen in a place that is professionally managed. I would expect a better response and compensation for the inconvenience as opposed to: just deal with it.

The stay is just as described, but the difference between this and other stays (in my experience) are the hosts. Emma & Mark go completely out of their way to ensure that you’re well informed, comfortable and happy. Highly recommended

Fantastic hosts. Great location and place to stay when visiting York. They have made the most of the space to provide a practical yet comfortable stay. Thanks for all of your communication and additional touches in the room.
