East New York, Brooklyn is a diverse, working class neighborhood just east of the popular neighborhood of Bedstuy and South East of Williamsburg, Bushwick and Ridgewood. The neighborhood is going through a wave of development so while there aren’t currently many sit down restaurants or cafes, there are great ‘bodegas’ (local shops and eateries) offering casual, diverse food and staples for everyday people. Brooklyn Blend (a 10-15min walk) is my favorite with sit down/carry out options of organic, fresh salads, smoothies and hot dishes! Or Melissa Meat market (across the street from the house) will serve you up a hot plate of Dominican rice and peas, chicken and plantains or some yummy chicken soup. Or else just your morning breakfast sandwich and coffe if you’re on the go!
The C train is less than a 5 min walk and takes you directly to more touristy parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan.

15 minute drive to/from JFK.
A/C/J/Z/2/3/4 trains are all a quick walk away. 20 minute train ride to downtown Manhattan and a short few stops from the popular neighborhoods of Bedstuy, Bushwick and Williamsburg.
12 minute drive/Uber to Gateway plaza where you'll find an abundance of shopping including Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Sephora, Home Depot, Macy's, Aldis, Shop Rite, Nordstom Rack, DSW, JC Penny, 5 Bellow, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Outback Steakhouse and SO MUCH MORE!
15 min drive/Uber to the Shops at Atlas Park where you’ll find Regal Cinemas, Home Goods, TJ Maxx, ULTA Beauty, Forever 21, NY Sports Club, Starbucks, California Pizza Kitchen, Chili’s, Subway, Cold Stone Creamery, and more all flanking an outside park.
12 Min bike/Drive to Shirley Chisom State park will transport you to another world. This serene nature preserve on the water offers invigorating views and an abundance of paths for hiking and biking as you explore the more natural side of Brooklyn.
12 Walk to the historic Highland Park for a lovely walk or run through nature, or mediation by the lake while the kids play soccer, baseball, basketball or tennis on the courts.
