Welcome to Haga Haga, a hidden treasure on the Eastern Cape Wild Coast. Just 2 km from OppiePlaas Haga Haga, you will find a peaceful holiday village surrounded by natural beauty and tranquillity.
Imagine walking on the pristine beach with your dog and leaving the only footprints in the sand. That’s how remote and charming Haga Haga is. (This is what one of the villagers shared with us in a recent magazine article.)
Haga Haga has a safe swimming beach along the warm waters of the Indian Ocean and a beautiful lagoon. You can try your luck at rock and surf fishing while your children collect shells or play in the protected waters of the lagoon. Or you can enjoy some golf, tennis, or horse riding in the area. There is something for everyone!
A NATURE LOVER’S PARADISE Haga Haga is a declared nature and marine conservancy with a rich diversity of indigenous fauna and flora. You can spot rare species like the Cape Clawless Otter and the Blue Duiker, as well as stunning wildflowers like Millwood trees, Wild Irises, Gladiolus, Hibiscus and Orchids. More than 300 indigenous wildflower species have been identified and many more await discovery.
If you’re a birdwatcher, then you’ll be amazed by the abundance of bird life, which includes Narina Trogons, Long Crested Eagles, Fish Eagles, Forest Weavers and Woodpeckers, African Black Oyster Catchers, Water Dikkops, Greenshanks, Kingfishers and many Plover species.
You can also see the whales that visit Haga Haga from July to early December and join the excitement of dolphin-spotting in the azure East Coast waters.
Put on your hiking boots and explore the various hiking trails that traverse the conservancy – the Krantz Garden Walk to Pullins Bay, the Otter Creek Walk and walks to Whale Point and Lagoon Look-Out. You can also tackle the 10 km trail along the beach to Double Mouth where you can collect pieces of Ming China and carnelian beads washed up from a sunken ship.
OTHER ATTRACTIONS Haga Haga has a hotel, shop, library, a small museum and an excellent library. You can also visit nearby attractions like the Haga Haga Hotel, Miarestate Game Reserve, Hotel & Spa, the Haga Haga Nature Reserve, Ninky Noo’s Pub and, of course, OppiePlaas Haga Haga Wedding and Function Venue, Pub & Restaurant. Furthermore, Marsh Strand, Kei Mouth, Morgan Bay and various Transkei resorts such as Trenneries and Seagulls are all within a day’s drive. East London, which offers all amenities, is located 60 km from OppiePlaas Haga Haga.
ANY TIME IS A GOOD TIME TO VISIT Haga Haga is a malaria free area with a moderate climate and summer rainfall. Its peak holiday seasons are December/January and April when the village is buzzing with activity. But you can also enjoy the tranquillity that Haga Haga offers during the off-season.
We invite you to discover our remarkable Wild Coast village and experience its charm and hospitality. Book your stay today and get ready for an unforgettable adventure!
