Due to not having GPS, we edged slowly into Gilsland and recognised our accomodation from the photo. Getting in was no problem. The parking instructions are better in the manual than on the website. I did leave some ground black pepper behind to go with the copious amounts of abandoned salt, bring everything else with you if you choose to cook. I did suggest that Mick supply a larger saucepan than the two smallish ones provided. We can recommend the Milecastle Inn. Bring toilet roll if you intend to stay more than a day or so. The audiovisual equipment was very good. The beds were comfortable and the water heating system fine. We didn't try out the heaters as the weather was wonderfully warm. We had a bath towel each but would have appreciated more than one hand towel. The view of hillsides and ancient roofs was very relaxing and the outside table and benches were a boon. All in all a very good place to catch up with an old friend.

Mick's apartment was easy to find, very convenient and great if you're looking for a self contained place to stay close to some lovely walking routes!

Magnis is ideally situated to explore Hadrian's Wall and all things Roman! Easy to find from host's directions and quiet for some much anticipated R&R. Mick was very knowledgeable to advise of local amenities and quick to respond if needed. Would definitely look to stay here again if in the area

A place not to be missed, the perfect stop along the wall! Supply of topographic maps and board games. Kind and helpful host. Uķnforgettable

Perfect location for walking the Hardian's Wall footpath, literally within a few yards of it. Only 6 miles from Birdoswald Roman Fort and 6 miles from Roman Army museum in the other direction. Extremely quiet and peaceful. Very clean. The only thing to note is that it doesn't have WiFi, not that it was a problem, just need t check your data allowances. To be clear, Mick never stated that it did have WiFi. Overall, a really good place to stay and we are planning to go again next year.
