This is somewhat of a difficult review to write as I'm in 2 minds about our stay. Let me start with the property itself. We visited Karongwe for my Wife's birthday as a surprise getaway. We both love the bush and animals, so that really was the primary focus of our stay and Karongwe delivered on that. 8000ha of really amazing bush and some great game viewing. Loved every minute of it. COVID had some impact on snack breaks, but overall it didn't make a different to that experience. For the lodge I was a little disappointed. I booked the Presidential Suite and expected it to look like the picture on AirBNB, however it didn't. The room was clean and nicely laid out, however it felt somewhat old and not what I was expecting for a Presidential Suite. The suite had 2 double beds that couldn't be put together so we had to sleep in separate beds which was not ideal. The room is constructed from what looked like plaster board on the inside and wood cladding on the outside and here's the kicker there were no opening windows, only fixed non-opening windows (they did have a good view). So the only fresh air was from a very big and noisy air conditioner. In summer I can imaging it will be quite hot and a little stuffy. Outside the room was a plunge pool which was also looking a little old and dated. The food at the lodge was pretty good - no complaints in that department and the service was great. Overall if you are looking for a bush experience than Karongwe is a great choice, just don't expect it to be too luxurious. We will be back for sure, but maybe next time we will try one of the other lodges on the property.
