This 3 bedroom rustic luxury bungalow nestled within 4 and half acres of coconut plantation and mix agriculture is situated in one of the most picturesque vestiges of true rural Sri Lanka …. The farming hamlet of Kirindiwela. In the Gampaha district. The villa is quaint yet functional, out of the way yet accessible, hospitable yet discreet. The property comprises of 2 bedroom suites and 1 double bedroom all with en-suite bathrooms. The 2 spacious bedroom suites each sleeps up to four adults. There are multiple indoor and outdoor dining areas. The poolside area with a view of the surrounding flora and fauna offers peace and tranquility. The place is ideal to getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city and immerse oneself in the the therapeutic gifts that nature has to offer.
A walk or bike down one of the many country lanes is an experience, where you get to see village traditions and lifestyle in its own pace. You come across farmers working their fields, little children playing, women cleaning houses and gardens, waving children inside schools, the odd job man, a drunken individual, boys playing cards, carrom or cricket. Beetle chewing most of them would welcome you with a ‘hi’, smile or wave.
A few names you would come across in the village are: Sethan Singho, Wilman, Eatin Singho, Babynona, Nandani, Anjula, Piya Bappa, Sugathaan, Sanjula, Ariyaratne, Sudu Hamine, Dampi Atha, Padmawathi & Kaluaracchie.
Farming and quarrying is the main source of income for most, whereas the rest take-up work in the nearby cities. A few mechanics, masons, and shopkeepers are also found along the way. Apart from tea, all other export crops are grown in the countryside. Rubber, Coconut, Paddy, spices, Banana, Pineapples and a variety of fruits take root here, thanks to a fertile and moist soil. The nearness to Colombo makes trading easy as well as fetch decent prices too.
Everyone or almost has an evening bath and are attired in fresh clothing. With fresh picked flowers they worship the Bo tree, an image of the Buddha or visit the temple. On a poya day or full moon day, everyone is out, visiting the village temple.
Waturagama is a little village blessed with a fertile soil where around 200 families exist either by means of agriculture or being employed in the nearby towns.
It occasionally rains (this area is known as Waturugama, meaning the village with water) but is a nice refreshing shower, not chilly & most welcome especially if you have your valuables under wraps.
Trees of fruit around the hotel and depending on the season, bearing are Mango, Rambuttan (lychee-like), Mango-steen, Pineapple, Jambu, Jackfruit, Grapefruit, Papaya, Banana and Uguressa. Coconut, King-coconut, Aereconut-beetle leaf nut trees are also found in the garden. Herbal & flowering plants and a little nursery that provides vegetables for the hotel can be visited across the garden. There are also a few flowering plants around the front.
This is also butterfly country where brightly colour winged beauties take flight around you. Squirrels and birds can be spotted from within your room. The land monitor, mongoose, beetles and lizards can be seen down the garden.
Historical places
The surrounding area of the WG is steeped in history dating back to 2 BC ranging from cave temples to most venerated churches only a few kilometers away.
The 1st King to have constructed Pilikuttuwa, some 2300 ago is said to be King Devanampiyatissa & King Valagamba during his period of reign renovated and maintained this temple 1100 odd years ago.

Pilikuttuwa Temple
King Devanampiyatissa is said to be the 1st King to have visited/ constructed Pilikuttuwa, some 2300 ago. King Valagamba during his period of reign renovated and maintained this temple 1100 odd years ago.
Images of Lord Buddha, with an excellent reclining image and paintings that date back to 1600 years can be found here, in a relatively calm and serene setting.
Today the venerable Kinigama Ananda Himi, is the custodian of Pilikuttuwa, and has done so for 38 years. In an area of around 200 acres, which consists of 1 of the 2% natural forest reserve found in the Gampaha district, together with 99 caves comprises this ancient temple. A dolawa or palanquin belonging to the Venerable Hikkaduwe Sri Sumangala, used in 1890 is also found here as is a picturesque dagoba situated within a cave.
However the most treasured inscription lies almost at the top of this mountain, where on the outside of the Manorame cave lays the carving in Asoka Aksara “ The gift of Aggibhuti, brother of cavalry officer, to the sangha of the four directions, present and absent.”
Maligathanne Temple
Situated atop a rock that is the tallest point in the Colombo district (Western Province), Maligatenne is said to have been a seat of power simply for the reason that the sacred tooth relic having been safeguarded here.
The 1st Nilame has been appointed from here being the “Hiripitiye Nilame”, a tradition that continues even today. King Valagamba had strategically built Maligatenne on safety and security with the 2-tiered rock offering visibility and the passage to the top that goes through a corridor of rocky walls. As sand was not available here the village of Pasgammana was used to carry sand to the top.
A dagoba and a lily pond is situated at the top with splendid views in every angle. A 100 year old image of Lord Buddha and an amazing mushroom-like cave. That todate easily offers shelter to over 300 people. It is said that this cave has a mere 4x3Ft circumference at the ground.
Maligatenne has 20 caves situated on around 67 acres. Its history is linked to the Kandian era and is more known as a meditation center with 81 years of its recent past has been used by Buddhist priests. Today the Venerable Ketawala Ghanaratne Himi is the chief priest at Maligatenne.
The guests can use the TukTuk at the Villa for a nominal charge. This can be paid directly to the caretaker
