10/10 will be back again. Friendliest staff, most comfortable bed, incredible food, gorgeous view, great WiFi, and super clean. Loved my stay and was the recharge I had hoped for.
La vista al lago de Atitlán es muy bonita
Maya Moon is simply the perfect space, intentionally designed with a shabby chic aesthetic. Its location is spectacular, featuring a charming on-site restaurant and only a 15-minute walk to a lovely yoga center in Tzununa. Boats pass by every 10 minutes to take you anywhere on the lake, and it's conveniently close yet sufficiently distant from the quirky buzz of San Marcos. I stayed in a private cabin for a week, working most weekdays. The internet worked exceptionally well, cutting off for just about 5 seconds once during the entire week. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the property attracts other tourists to relax by the lake and in the restaurant, creating a bit of a traveler's melting pot. The cabin had everything needed: a bathroom, kitchen, a table and chair for working, a comfortable bed, and a stunning view from the balcony complemented by the soothing sounds of the waves at night. I already miss it.
This place was perfect. Beautiful views, delicious restaurant. Private dock for guests was great for reading in the sun and swimming!
Beautiful location and amenities. While we were excited to stay here for Christmas, it didn’t go as expected. The reason we had to drop a star was because the manager was so standoffish and unkind to us and to our guests 🥲 this caused us to not want to spending time (or money) at the restaurant on the property where she frequented. Bummer, because we would have loved to become raving fans and positively tell our traveling friends about this place…but she kinda dashed that for us. Nonetheless the facility and other staff were lovely. Thankful to them. Really enjoyed meditating and swimming at the dock. Great distance to Tzununá, too.

Fiona & Chris Maya Moon Lodge was jointly created by Chris and Fiona who came to Lake Atitlán at the beginning of 2001 and fell in love with the place.They both decided to visit again, and eventually in 2006, they came to live at the lake. Within a year they found this piece of land which was barren without electricity or running water. It was over two years before they were able to live on the property, part of that time they lived in Panajachel, San Marcos, Jaibalito, Tzununá, and a camper van. Neither Chris nor Fiona spoke any Spanish and had never been involved in building of property of any sort, let alone in a foreign country where the villagers spoke there local dialects, such as Kaqchickel. It was to be learning curve for everyone involved! At first, the goals were very simple: electricity and then running water. Their house by the top raod entrance was originally a garage and the owners lived for a while in their camper van out front. The garage and later the Casa Suena was built by the lake. Later, in July 2012, after five months of traveling in their camper van in Mexico they came back and started to build Maya Moon Lodge. Due to the landscape of the land the idea of cabanas on stilts was decided. They had a three-month break from November to March and the last stage was completed. Finally, in January 2014, they decided that they could open the Lodge to guests. So now the next adventure begins…………. Maya Moon Lodge!
