Bucks Mills · 整套乡村小屋 · 2室3床1.0卫 · 可住4人 · Coastal cottage with garden, woodland walks
A charming terraced fisherman’s cottage with its own garden in the unspoilt coastal village of Bucks Mills. It's a 500m (5 minute) walk to the beach along a no-through road. Here, you'll find stretches of sand and rock pools exposed at low tides and plenty of pebbles for skimming. Dogs are welcome on the beach all year round. The South West Coast path, leading to Peppercombe in one direction and Clovelly in the other, goes through the village + there's plenty of circular and woodland walks. At one time, every cottage in the village was occupied by a member of the Braund family. Melinda was the last Braund to live in No 5 (the middle cottage in a terrace of three), hence the name. Melinda's Cottage has been owned by our family for nearly 40 years, previously owned by my parents-in-law, John and Jo. I've been visiting for many years and have enjoyed many special moments with my children growing up - catching our first prawns in the rock pools, damming streams on the beach, swimming in the sea, playing in the garden and walking in the woods and along the coast path. The village is very quiet and unspoilt - perfectly suited to anyone looking to get away from it all and enjoy the natural surroundings. There is a shop, stocking local products and every-day essentials at the top of the hill in Bucks Cross, or you'll find a choice of supermarkets and other shops in Bideford. The popular Hoops Inn is around a 45-minute walk away from Melinda's, following footpaths through the woods, fields and quiet country lanes. The renowned Farmers Arms, Woolsery is a few miles inland from Melinda's - booking is advised. Guests should be aware that the beach at Bucks Mills is reached via a steep path (tarmac) that is not suitable for all. There are no facilities at the beach, but North Devon's popular surf beaches, including Westward Ho!, Croyde and Bude are all easily accessible by car and offer surf hire and surf lessons. The cottage garden offers plenty of space to enjoy ball games or for children to let off steam running around. There's also a bench to sit back and read or watch the butterflies in the summer months. Free WiFi. Sleeps 4 (max 2 adults). Two bedrooms - 1 x kingsize bed and 2 x full length small singles (2'6" x 6'3"). All bed linen and towels supplied, but not beach towels. Beds will be made up for when you arrive. Electric heater in Main Bedroom. A convector heater is in the main bedroom cupboard and can be used in the small bedroom if needed. Please note, the stairs are steep and may not be suitable for everyone. Kitchen, all electric cooker with induction hob, fridge with ice box, washing machine, dishwasher, Tassimo coffee machine, microwave. Equipped with usual kitchen utensils etc. Sitting/dining room - TV, sofa and chair for 4 people, table and 4 seats, books/games, electric heater. Please be aware that the range is very old and is used at our guest's own risk. (The range must only be used with eco-log wood briquettes, which are seasonally available in most local supermarkets and DIY stores or can be bought direct from various wood merchants). Bathroom - includes bath, over bath Aqualisa electric shower, and electric heated towel rail. Like most old cottages, the height of the ceilings and doors are lower than you typically find in modern homes. All electricity is included in the price. High chair available at no extra charge. Well behaved dogs are welcome at no extra charge, but please take care to ensure our soft furnishings are protected from your dog. Please also be aware that the garden is not secure so dogs cannot be left unattended. Good base for exploring North Devon and Cornwall. Bucks Mills is perfect for getting away from the hustle and bustle of modern living. There are no street lights in the village (so it's great for stargazing) - a torch is recommended! As well as the natural playground of the beach, there is a choice of theme parks for children nearby (the Big Sheep and the Milky Way) as well as the excellent North Devon Wake Park for wakeboarding and family fun at the aqua park (this is normally popular with teenagers too). Bucks Mills is ideal for couples or families with children who are looking for a quiet, unspoilt beach to play and swim. It's also ideal if you enjoy walking and discovering nature. It's probably not the best choice of location if you like a busy atmosphere.
Beautiful cottage set in an idyllic valley with a spectacular rocky beach at the end of the lane and many woodland/coastal walks on your doorstep. We stayed with a baby and a toddler and the cottage was perfect - spotlessly clean, well-equipped and tastefully decorated. We didn’t want to leave!
A beautiful cottage in a gorgeous location. We went for a writing break and specifically sought somewhere peaceful with close by walking and sea. Our greyhound loved the beach at low tide (once daily on our visit) and we did some of the beautiful woodland circular walks (bring proper boots as it can be muddy!). We cooked (great kitchen) and enjoyed the sunny garden space in the evening. We did also have a drink in the nearest thatched roof pub (Hoops) which we walked to through fields (half our ish). Overall a really fab cottage for exploring this part of North Devon.
Melinda's cottage was beautiful! We had a lovely holiday. Lucy was a great host and a pleasure to communicate with.
Beautiful and characterful cottage in a lovely quiet location ..lots to enjoy on the doorstep with excellent pub food on offer close by and fab coastal walks.
Beautiful rural area, A.O.N.B. and Conservation area. Lots of birds also butterflies in summer. Five minutes walk to a lovely, quiet pebbly beach with rock pools and sand between the rocks at low tide. The walk to the beach is along a quiet 'no through road' through the village. The foot path down to the beach from the village is tarmac but is very steep in places and will not be accessible to all. Good beach fishing and many walks from cottage including South West Coast path.
Many local attractions nearby and good pubs and restaurants.
Parking in lane outside cottage. Public transport about 1.5 miles away. The lane to the village from Bucks Cross is single track and has steep sides in some places.
自我介绍
Hello, My parents-in-law John and Jo bought the cottage in 1984 and I have been lucky enough to visit Bucks Mills and stay at Melinda's regularly over the last 30 years with my husband and children. Now I've taken over hosting and hope to continue their excellent host reviews :) Bucks Mills has always been a special place that has barely changed over the years - we hope you enjoy the beach and woodland walks as much as we do.
