What a unique property and location, with the lakefront access and indoor/outdoor pool. The views to the south and west over Lake Orta and the mountains were spectacular. The Villa is huge and we discovered a new surprise every day of the week we enjoyed there. Although dated and in need of a large renovation, we could imagine how spectacular it was when last modernised. It was like stepping into the set of a 1970/80's movie. The photographs struggle to do the property justice, each room is a different decor/style to its neighbour; we particularly liked the high ceilings and windows. We quickly learned the routine for opening and closing windows and shutters as the sun moved around the sky to maintain the balance between light and darkness, to keep the coolness of the night as long as possible into the day. Being August, most of our time was spent outside enjoying the pool and lake, our 3 families (and occasional visitors) passed many enjoyable hours there with the children (ranging from aged 4 to 13) exploring the shallows of the warm waters of the lake. The kayak and paddle boards were a welcome bonus and facilitated some trips across the lake to Ronco. The check-in process was quite simple, even though the huge villa is spread over four levels! Check-out was the same; our dealings with Irene and her husband were professional helpful and not at all intrusive, exactly as it should be. Our eight day stay at a peak time was excellent value for money, perfectly reflecting the current condition of the property; I expect that once renovated it would cost much more to stay there. I have no hesitation in recommending Villa la Bira and Famiglia Enzio to everyone who is looking for a stay near Lake Orta.

As my family exclaimed repeatedly throughout the week we enjoyed it "When this place was remodeled in there 70s, it was the - THE - place to be invited for any reason. Any if you were invited, boy did you go. And if you went, boy, did you talk about it." This is a singular location. The sweeping lake-frontage gives sweeping views of the very, very picturesque Lago di Orta. And the lake. Ohhh, the lake. If you are a fan of blue-green translucency, of un-busy waters whose warmth calls for swimming and floating and peals of laughter, this is your lake. This is a singular home. It is dated, with many of its edges and spaces worn in a way that decades of love and use will produce. Paint has been replaced, several carpets have threadbare areas. We found the dim lighting intimate and appealing in the heat of the day. And if it were 1979, we could imagine this remarkable house on the front of Architectural Digest. There are so many rooms and spaces with so much unique character in each. . Many of the bedrooms have spectacular views of the lake, as does most every room in the house. An indoor-outdoor pool that gives onto a large deck or large indoor entertaining space. And the level of detail and of thought that went into the enjoyment of each of the spaces is clear. For us, the age of the place was an enormous attribute, helping make us feel instantly at home. Our interactions with Irene, of the Famiglia Enzio, from booking to and throughout our stay, were always warm, professional and helpful. She was quick to respond to any request and helpful at every turn. Going above and beyond, she was also able to help us find a boat with the local (read - next door) marina, whose owners were also a lovely family. In sum, we are big fans. Of Orta and her endless beauty, of this remarkable old house and her character and charms, and of the kindness of the Famiglia Enzo.

we had a very fine holiday with our children and grandchildren. Everything in the house and especialy the large garden with the stunning view over the lake is fantastisk. We would love to come back another time.

Villa La Bira was a perfect fit four group of 11, which included five teenagers. We have made many trips to Italy in the past, including a trip to Lake Garda in 2019, and this visit and place were quite memorable. For starters, being right on the lake was really special, and we were in the lake and in the pool pretty much every day of our 2 week trip. The SUP board and canoe were nice adders that our group took full advantage of. The house itself was plenty big for all of us, and the bedrooms were spacious with comfortable beds. We slept with the windows open and the lake breeze kept it cool at night for comfortable sleeping. There are plenty of bathrooms, but only three showers (and a bunch of baths). We made it work just fine with our group, and in my opinion enough hot water to go around (some lower water pressure perhaps on the top floor bedroom). The hosts were magnificent, very personable, and highly responsive. My Italian is OK, and their English is quite good, so no communication barriers among us. Our family mostly cooked in for dinners, and the kitchen is ample big with a large dining table in the dining room to accommodate us easily. It was really fun having dinners there, and serving local cuisines with fresh pasta, vegetables, meats, etc. I thought the Wifi was reliable and available any time I needed it for simple browsing, etc. I think the kids and grandpa were streaming sometimes, and when that was happening it could slow the internet service for others. No big deal as far as I'm concerned. You should be disconnecting from this stuff on vacation here IMO. Overall, everyone in our group really, really enjoyed the stay here. Lake Orta is not as busy some of the other lakes like Maggiore and Garda, and we really appreciated the slower pace, less trafficked roads, and less touristy experience here. We absolutely would return to Lake Orta and to Villa La Bira for a future trip.
