The location of the place is extraordinary. The house is embedded in the tea estate and it is overlooking the entire valley. We were the only guests. There was a dedicated chef present, which cooked delicious Sri Lankan dishes, including smoothies with fresh milk from the farmer which is next to the bungalow. Dinner prices are with 15 Dollars per person rather expensive, but given that it was all homemade for just the two of us justified. However - for our personal taste - the manager, which was also present, was too intrusive. We felt that each of our steps was observed and commented. When we went for a hike, we immediately got some WhatsApp messages to check where we are. Also we got asked a dozens of times during our stay to write a review on TripAdvisor. Giving us more private space would have made this a really pleasant stay.
5/5 for this accommodation! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and cannot recommend visiting and staying at the Hatale mini World's End Bangalow enough. We only stayed one night, and wish we had time to extend our stay for at least another night or two (or a week). We were greeted by Akram, whom was very responsive to calls and messages and made sure our journey and arrival was safe. We lost our way as we drove a tuktuk ourselves up the mountain and the GPS was acting up, but Akram gave us good instructions on how to get to the accommodation effectively. The accommodation was a bit hard to get to, but definitely worth it! We parked our vehicle at the Tea Factory, and Akram organized a tuktuk for us to get up to our accommodation. The views are breathtaking, and the accommodation spotless, neat and very very well maintained. The gardens around the bungalow are well managed and lovely, and you can tell a lot of heart and care has been placed in maintaining the bungalow. Augustine, the accommodation caretaker is an amazing cook and is friendly, accommodating and very hospitable, bringing us tea, catering to our needs and even helped us bring in our washing quickly when there was a sudden downpour! We felt so spoilt and cared for, we did not feel like leaving. The food (we had dinner, breakfast and lunch) were all delicious and extremely generous, and we ate more than we usually do because they were so good. I think I will miss Agustine's cooking so much, I might come back to Sri Lanka and this bungalow just to have it again. Akram even took us on a hike up to the mountain peak, and a tour to the tea gardens where we tried our hand in picking tea leaves and learning about the process and agriculture. Akram was very friendly and knowledgeable about the plantation, and also gave us a lot of advice in helping with our trip plans. He is also a very good conversationalist, and shared his knowledge about Sri Lanka, the culture and many more. They care so much that we are happy with our stay, and went above and beyond to make sure all our needs were met (we even had a late checkout after enjoying home cooked lunch by Augustine to enjoy our surroundings a bit more before leaving). Taking a tuktuk down to the tea factory where we were parked, we were also treated to a tour inside the factory to see the processing of the harvested leaves and a tea tasting experience (At no extra cost! They just are passionate about tea and were happy to share!), where we also purchased bags of tea for souvenir at a very reasonable price. No other accommodation would have provided such a service! Just as we were about to leave, we realised our tuktuk wasn't starting and had been ransacked by monkeys. Akram and a few other workers helped us get it started again so we could be on our way. This is probably the best hospitality and service I've received, and I cannot recommend this place enough. However (very minor downsides), internet and cell service was a bit choppy at times, which was not a major problem because we were enjoying ourselves with the view and surroundings. Also hot water pressure was a bit low, but there's hot water so all was good anyway! As this bungalow is a bit secluded and situated in the plantation, there were also a fair number of bugs, which didn't really affect us much but just something to keep in mind. Great place to stay, highly recommend!!! Thank you Akram, Agustine, and everyone else that we met during our stay for the wonderful experience!!!
Great food, must try the Sri Lankan dishes. Very warm and hospitable staff, everyone was welcoming. Good views around the place, take a walk and be amazed :)
We stayed here for the last leg of our Sri Lanka trip and it was a perfect place to wind down after an amazing trip. It's secluded and a little difficult to get to, but the views are absolutely worth it. With views of the Knuckles on the left, the Victoria dam on the right, we spent our time at the bungalow, hiking, admiring the views, walking through the tea gardens and taking pictures of the stunning scenery. Terrence was an exceptional host! We reached the Hatale tea estates around 1 am and Terrence was around to guide us to the Bungalow. Hot face towels and hot tea at 1 am - bliss! He also organized a guided walk up to where the tea workers were, so I could get some pictures. The caretaker (Augustine) was earnest in his efforts and nothing was too much trouble for him. He made some tasty, homely meals for us! The rooms are spacious & clean. The bungalow is very private and we loved the quietude & calm ofthe surroundings.
