Pleiades - Alcyone is a unique aesthetic apartment on the first floor of a completely renovated neoclassical building in the heart of the old town of Chania. Stone and wood in absolute harmony, with modern materials, give comfort and a sense of luxury so that your stay is truly an unforgettable experience. You will adore the location and feel the elegance in all over the place.. It is very bright place, with cozy furniture, TV, WiFi, safe, fridge, cooker, and small electrical appliances such as toaster, coffee maker, hair dryer, steam iron and ironing board. Also available: brushwood, coffee and tea, kitchen utensils and household items to use. There is basic beach equipment available: umbrellas, beach mats and beach towels. After each visit all bedding and linen is washed and sterilized, even the blankets. Hygiene plays a major role for us. The pillows are not only covered with pillow cases, but with special protective cases too, which are removed and washed each time.
Loved staying here! Eva was amazing at communication and provided really helpful local map with tons of recommendations. Would absolutely stay here again and recommend anyone do the same! Very walkable to shops and restaurants.
Eva's place was exceeding all expectations. She was friendly and even gave us food recommendations with gluten-free options, since my friend has celiac disease. We thought we got a beautiful room to sleep in, but got so much more!
This place was a gem to find! Wonderful location if you like to be in the hustle and bustle, while still being private and quiet at night. Plenty of amenities close by, from little mini marts to fantastic restaurants. I would definately recommend staying here in the beautiful Old Town. More than that though, Eva is an amazing host, thoughtful little extras to have everything covered - drinks in the fridge and beach equipment in the closet - she really thought of everything. Her online recommendation list for bars, restaurants, activities etc, along with map links became our reference guide throughout our stay. She was on hand for any questions too. Genuinely lovely and friendly. We couldnt have asked for a better 1st airbnb experience. Thank you Eva!
Walking to the west along Akti Topazi Street, we stop at the Muslim mosque of Kiutzuk Hasan (1645) (F), which hosts several exhibitions during the summer. Continuing our seaside walk we can see the Fountain Square, while at the west end of the port is located Firkas castle (G), where the Greek Flag was raised officially on December 1st 1913 for the union of Crete with Greece. The castle hosts Maritime Museum of Crete and Historical, Folklore and Archaeological Society of Crete.
Walking circumferential of the castle, we walk up Theotokopoulou Street, where we can see at the left the church of San Salvatore (15-17th century) that hosts Byzantine and Postbyzantine Collection of Chania (H). The traditional district of Topana, as it was named because of the Venetian powder magazine that existed there (top hane in Turkish), begins from there.
At the end of Theotokopoulou Street we walk down Douka Street and arrive at the center of the aristocratic neighborhood of the Venetian city. There we can admire the huge aristocratic houses of the Venetian and later Turkish noble, the buildings of wonderful architecture of Theofanous Street, which have been renovated and are used as hostels. The Palazzo of Renier family in Moschon Street that was built in the 15th century with the small family chapel of Agios Nikolaos and the impressive entrance with the Latin sign and the blazon of the family is very special.
Keep walking down Zampeliou Street, we leave behind us on the right the old Jewish District or “Ovriaki” with the renovated, unique for Crete, Jewish synagogue. Finally, it worth walking east of the port where we can see the historical Splanzia Square that hosts the church of Agios Nikolaos (1204) (I) with the Turkish minaret and the Renaissance temple of Agios Rokkos (1630).
The central Market of Chania and the whole old town and the Venetian harbor are accessible on foot.
