Assistance with staying in the area:
Nasese Apartments and Ratu Sukuna Rd is a great location because Taxi's are across the road, a great bus route runs down the street, a supermarket/liquor shop, small convenience stores and a wine merchant are all within 20 metres of the apartments.
It's very normal for people to walk at the seawall before and after work which is just 350m from the apartment buildings.
There are some good FB groups you can join to learn more about what events are on, and to help people who have just moved to Fiji, these include:
"Fiji Expats" and "Suva Expats"
There is a great monthly market called the "ROC Market" held on Carnarvon St, which is about 20 mins walk from the apartments.
There's food, plants and handicrafts available.
Alliance Française de Suva also have events including art and politics, and are also nearby on Des Voeux Rd.
Good cafes nearby include: Ginger Cafe (at the Museum), ROC Cafe, Mana Coffee, Kanu Gastropub (there are more, this is just a few).
Sundowner drinks are great at: Grand Pacific Hotel, The Holiday Inn (try their fried fish sticks!), as well as - the Yacht Club (befriend a member and go along), and also a littler further - Eden Bistro and Bar where you can get proper cocktails.
University of the South Pacific has a lovely campus and it's worth visiting to check out the bookshop and the cafe, even just to browse the stacks, and experience the tropical architecture of the library.
For a swim - you can use the Olympic Pools near Suva Point. Locals also swim at the beach at the end of the road, 5mins walk.
There are lots of restaurants and food places, I recommend Yue Lai for yum cha, Barbell for Fijian cuisine, Goat Curry at Grand Pacific Hotel, everything at Eden Bistro and Bar, Bad Dog is ok not great, but a fun vibe, The Great Wok of China for excellent Szechuan. Tikos floating boat - for seafood and Fijian, and the best priced lobster at a top restaurant in Suva. There's plenty more you will discover - including across the street is a lady who sells out of her white hatchback - delicious curry and roti for $2 or $4, very worthwhile :)
