Unique architectural style meets Black Mountain neighborhood charm. This designer space stimulates the artists-at-heart and provides a gracefully modern space suitable for a long or short-term stay. Located on a quiet street in the heart of town, you'll have easy access to all Black Mountain has to offer. Take a 15min stroll downtown to enjoy local shops and restaurants or a 5min walk to Lake Tomahawk. Additionally, you'll be less than a 10min drive from the beautiful hiking trails of Montreat. The Mac House is a very special place and we couldn't be more excited to share it with you. Those familiar with the Black Mountain architecture and design world will recognize the home as one designed and built by Horace McGuire “Mac” Wood. Horace was a “small house designer” who was part of the faculty at Black Mountain College in the early 1940s where he taught design and construction. After his career at the college, Mac designed homes throughout Black Mountain over the course of the next two decades. This home was built in 1947 and recently renovated with careful intention to keep the spirit of the home’s design intact. Though quirky in style, the home is highly functional for all aspects of living, including a kitchen/dining area; a living room overlooking the backyard; a master bedroom with an adjoining half-bathroom; and an additional room which can be utilized as a workspace, studio, or additional bedroom. The house has a new front and back porch, which are ideal spaces to enjoy the serene environment the home is enveloped by.

Fantastic and wonderful hosts! House was super cute and quirky! Absolutely perfect!
We loved our stay. The property was very clean and comfortable. It was in a very peaceful neighborhood within a short walk to park which had views of the mountains. We enjoyed shopping in the quaint downtown area which also had a nice selection of restaurants. Michael was very quick to respond to our questions and gave helpful suggestions of the area.

Great spot! stayed with a young kiddo and they got us all set up with a pack and play and some little toys! comfy living area, bed and outside spaces! Great spot!
We had a great stay. They were wonderful hosts, with great recommendations and communication. The place was delightful and so well stocked with little things to make our stay comfortable and fun (especially for out kid, although it would be a very cool place for someone without kids as well).

The Mac House is located on a quiet and peaceful street within the heart of one of Black Mountain’s historic residential neighborhoods. The location offers easy walking distance to downtown attractions but with enough distance from the bustle of traffic or businesses.
Though Asheville is a short drive away, no car is needed to enjoy the attractions of Black Mountain while staying at the Mac house. Its location positions you for an easy (mostly sidewalk!) stroll to downtown in under 15 minutes, and just a 5-minute walk to serene Lake Tomahawk. Grab your morning coffee and walk outside to the lake, where you can enjoy the half-mile trail and discover why it was voted by the community to be “Black Mountain’s #1 Outdoor Amenity.” In the evenings after 7:30pm, the nearby golf course cart path is available to the public for an after-dinner trip to enjoy the greenway and see the stars.
Directions to Lake Tomahawk (0.25 miles from the Carriage House):
Turn right out of the driveway
Turn left at the stop sign (Laurel Ave) – You’ve made it!
Directions to Downtown Black Mountain (0.7 miles from the Carriage House):
Turn left out of the driveway.
At the end of the road, turn right onto Azalea (this is the only segment with no sidewalk).
At the end of Azalea, turn left & hop onto the sidewalk on Laurel Circle Dr.
Continue on this road up the hill and ultimately turn right at the intersection with a stop sign onto Church Street. Stay on Church Street, which will bring you into the heart of downtown.
Directions to the Golf Course (across the clearing from the Carriage House):
Turn right out of the driveway.
Walk directly across the road (Laurel Ave) and cut through the clearing. It’ll spit you out onto an isolated 3 hole circuit (3rd – 5th).
If feeling adventurous – walk the entire 18! It’s around a 4.5 mile adventure all the way around.

Love raising my young family in this great little town - so many wonderful outdoor amenities, from the miles of trails in neighboring Montreat to the beautiful views from Lake Tomahawk right down the street. Trail running long distances - early morning, daytime, or night (anytime I can squeeze it in!) is how I satisfy my need for adventure these days. Growing up enjoying Clark Griswold's hilarious travels, I have always had a special place in my heart for road trips. What kind of host am I? Two of my greatest social loves is meeting & helping folks. My hosting follows suite. I like to make sure my guest are well taken care of, from making sure there is plenty of coffee to providing them with as much information as they care to hear concerning the surrounding area.
