The miner’s trail from Angels Camp to Murphys is still visible on the east hillside. During the Gold Rush, the creek was an accessible and common spot for travelers to water their horses. The “weir” at the upper lawn was the original “swimming hole” built in October 1945. At that time the property was a camp offering sites with fire pits and 10 cent showers. In 1961 the pool was built and the main house was a restaurant and bar with a small general store.
