Beachaven is an Idyllic summer retreat just meters from the beach. This historic 1913 bungalow is secluded, relaxing and peaceful. The back gate faces the Otago/Otepoti shipping channel with a marine reserve salt marsh. Aramoana Spit is abundant with wildlife, penguins, native birds and sea lions and here is a mole for long walks. In the lounge there is an open fire and plenty of firewood to keep you warm, with wi-fi and CD's for night time entertainment.

Staying at Beachaven was a dream come true - a picture perfect house by the sea to watch sunsets, seals swim, seabirds fly and ships roll in. We were steps away from what felt like our own private beach. The drive in and out was picturesque. The house was so cosy and had everything we needed and more. We were particularly appreciative of the fireplace all set up for us ready to light. We were sad to leave and plan to come back if Liane will have us :)

Unique place in a stunning location, one of our favorutie places along the road trip location wise. We had sea lions go past the window and between our cars from the rear beach to the front! Lovely sunrises and peaceful area. Access is via a hundred metre drive along the beach to arrive at the property so check tide times with Liane for the spit before heading there. We used the first search result and it was an hour out from what she later told us the high tide was so we had a close call with the cars...! Liane was super helpful though and no problems in the end. The home itself is historic and maintained as such so quite back to basics but all clean and tidy. Thanks for having us!

Beachaven is just passed the Aramoana township on Spit Beach at the mouth of the Otago/Otepoti harbour. The house was built by the Harbour Board in 1913 for the ship pilots before there were any roads. Beachaven is an Historic Places registered house and a unique location
To get to Beachaven go to maps and put in 78 Moana St Aramoana. As you drive into Aramoana township you will be on Moana St. Turn right at Spit Road at the end you will see a gate which is chained but not locked (please remember to close the gate), lift the chain and drive down the road, then onto the beach. At the end you will see a long green fence and behind that fence is Beachaven. You will need to check the tides for Spit Beach, some tides are too high to drive in so in that case park your car at the end of the road and walk the 100 meters to the house, then collect your car later. Beachaven is surrounded by the ocean which makes this location not only secluded and peaceful but unique.
