We were looking forward to this stay due to the promise of a Medicean style villa in a strategic position with lots of activities to do including lazy by the pool, however our experience couldn't have been more different. I have stayed in many airbnbs and have never left after the first night so that speaks volumes. The pool is nothing like pictured - it requires immediate repair and maintenance for safety reasons. It is also located down a dangerous long rocky path in a bush area full of mosquitoes - found a snake near the frog pond (1 metre from pool) where grass had not been mowed. I grew up in the country so understand you get insects and animals but maintenance is key to managing this. When advised of issues, host was defensive and joked that she should have warned me about the wild boars in the area. I have requested a refund for 2 nights given the place didn't match description but host has so far refused. overall such a shame as it's got potential.

It’s an amazing peaceful place to stay, private pool was a great size provided by a brilliant host who gave a variety of recommendations one of which being horse riding along the hills which was fantastic! This location is not far from both Florence and Pisa giving us plenty of opportunities to go and explore. If you want modcons this is not the place for you and if going around august time ensure you have plenty of insect repellent. Gemma was an amazing host who made our holiday so much easier having been very responsive and on hand to help answering any questions, highly recommended!! Definitely worth going back for the beautiful spot and recommend to anyone looking for that traditional feel.

If you are looking for a really historic and exciting stay in Tuscany then this is a great option. The building is enormous, cavernous really, and the surrounding country is gorgeous. There are some great restaurants nearby. Gemma is a gem and will take good care of you, her family has owned the property maybe forever. She also helped us book horseback rides nearby, which was incredible. My kids loved it. As an experience, though in my opinion staying in something this old is just that, an experience. It felt like sleeping in an actual castle, which Should perhaps be a museum. All in all something we will not be forgetting.

We loved our stay in Barberino di Mugello! We were blown away by the authenticity of this old fortress. Our almost 4 year old son loves everything about knights, castles and fortresses and he was in heaven when he realized that he would be sleeping in a place that was just like out of the books and movies he loves! We were staying with 4 adults and 3 children in the apartment of round about 500qm, and everyone found there own favorite spot to spent time: Our daughter loved the fast green area surrounding the premiss with its old fountains and frogs who would come out at dusk. My father in law spent time in the living room, on the big couch to read his books, where it was nice and cool. My mother in law loved the pool, right below the pear and fig trees. I really enjoyed the patio, where we would sit every night for dinner and my husband enjoyed the sitting area in front of the fortress with a view of the pine trees which line the road to the front gate. This building is living, breathing history. Also, Gemma, the owner, could not have been nicer. She brought us eggs, apricots and salad from her own farm. Whenever we needed her it took 5 minutes and she was there. Thanks, again Gemma! You made our stay very special! We can only recommend a stay in Barberino di Mugello
