A few friends and I have been coming down to railfan the Reading and Northern railroad for a couple years now, usually staying at one of the many boring hotels in Reading. However, this time, I happened to find Carolee's place in Tamaqua on Airbnb. We were ecstatic to find that her house was located right in South Tamaqua at Houser's Crossing, on the Reading and Northern mainline. We crossed the little bridge, opened the gate, and crossed the tracks to our house positioned perfectly a couple hundred feet uphill from the tracks. We spent our weekend taking photos of the R&N's beautifully restored #2102 steam locomotive and their streamlined F-unit diesels. We saw a few additional trains from the front porch including the NRFF "Fast Freight." If you are not a railfan, don't worry too much. The number of trains past the house were not overwhelming (esp. at night,) and the house is spray foam insulated to keep the noise down. Overall, Carolee's place was perfect for our weekend in Tamaqua!

Carolee is an amazing host. Her home is just lovely and is set in a beautiful area. It was our first time in that area and her booklet was so helpful with where to shop, eat and visit. The beds were comfortable, TV easy to use and we loved sitting on the front porch in the evening. We look forward to our next visit to that area and staying in this beautiful home again.
