42 Marygate has been converted from redundant commercial space. Centrally located, with access from the high street, this is an ideal location in the centre of historic Berwick. Only a few minutes walk away from the railway station, this makes it accessible via train and also an ideal base to explore Northumberland and Edinburgh. On entrance you can make yourself at home in the large open plan living area with a wood burning stove for cosy nights all year round. 42 Marygate comprises 4 apartments and operates as a boutique self-check in Aparthotel. Entering from Marygate into a spacious communal lobby, move up the stairs to the first floor, and follow the hallway to the end - Saffron is at the rear of the property. Entering Saffron itself, you will walk into a spacious living area with a full kitchen straight ahead and to the right. There is also a cupboard for coats and shoes. A large dining table immediately to the left (designed to seat twelve if all four apartments are rented by one group) is made from the same Ash as the lobby staircase. The comfortable seating area is alongside an 8kw wood burner which makes the space cosy and welcoming at any time of year. The 55 inch LG OLED TV is perfect for film nights. Free view channels are available and guests can’t log into all major streaming services. Leaving the living area through the glass door a small hallway feeds a bathroom and two bedrooms. To the left is the main bedroom with a king size bed. On the right is the second bedroom - the bunk room - with its bespoke bunk bed and staircase. The bottom bunk is a standard double with a single bed on top. Saffron is a beautiful, calm and private space, cosy in the winter with the stove burning and bright and airy in the summer with wonderful light.

We loved our stay n Berwick-upon-Tweed. The apartment was amazing. Lots of lovely quality touches all around the house. Great location in the centre of the town but you couldn’t hear a thing once you were inside. We especially enjoyed the lovely fire place. We could come back in a heart beat.
What a place to stay! As soon as you walk in you can tell the thought that has went into everything. High quality everywhere from the cups to the bedding. Matthew and Hannah have really accomplished a five star experience in all there accommodations. Will be booking again for our next trip to Berwick and recommending to friends and family. Also the town hall that is a 10 second walk from the front door is a great way to get a little history from the area the tour guide was brilliant and only £3 an adult
Matthew’s place was wonderful, the location was on the high street so couldn’t have been more central to Berwick. You were able to park outside to load and unload and Matthew provided a very useful map of free car parks to use throughout our stay. The apartment itself had everything you could need throughout our stay, the kitchen was well equipped. Tea, coffee and milk sachets provided with dairy free alternatives too 😊 Our dogs loved snuggling in front of the cosy wood burner. Sofa’s and bed both very comfortable . Would highly recommend staying here
"Saffron" had a beautifully designed interior, to make you feel welcome and comfortable with an open plan living area large enough for 4 people. Kitchen area was also fully equiped for all types of cooking preparation for additional visiting guests. You can comfortably feed 8-10 people at the long table. The wood burning stove with a long interior flue pipe, was an added bonus for comfort and atmosphere. The flat is located at the back of the building; so it is quiet and away from the noise of the high street. Windows are all frosted for privacy, but there is some additional velux ceiling windows bringing in additional light, that really help lighten the space. Matthew was clear with communication and quick to respond. The only very very small thing I could possibly 'complain' about.... is that we found the floor tiles in the bathroom cold under foot!! It's just a personal preference to have a neutral/warming bathroom floor surface - and Matthew had kindly provided cork & towel mats.
