Fantastic house in the Scottish Borders. The house had a warm homely feel. Decorated and kitted out to a high standard. Very clean. Garden area lovely and private. Location handy for all local tourist amenities and walks. Would certainly recommend to others.
Lovely cottage, very comfortable and with a great enclosed garden. Fab pub in the village, lovely neighbours - couldn’t ask for more!
We had a lovely 3 night stay at Ivy cottage. It was so cosy and comfortable despite the rain! A beautiful kitchen with windows overlooking the garden to watch the garden birds and great wood burning stove for the evening. The bedrooms were cosy and very quiet at night time. We brought our border terrier with us and the handy porch for drying him off was a bonus so he didn't get the house dirty. We walked to Paxton house and had a morning at a nearby beach (20 min drive) which was lovely. We stayed Sunday to Wednesday and the only disappointing thing was the local pub is shut on a Monday and Tuesday so we didn't get to visit! Lucy was a very responsive host and answered any questions I had very promptly. Overall, a great stay and would definitely recommend.
We have just had 3 nights at Ivy Cottage. Lucy was excellent at answering all our questions and her recommendations were superb. We had dinner at the local pub the Cross inn twice as the food was amazing and the staff were great. We were able to take our dog into the pub and they gave her treats! The locals were very friendly. Ivy cottage is a little gem. Super clean and waiting for us were a little collection of goodies, Lucy had even bought an Easter Egg as it was over the Easter weekend. Super cosy with a huge basket of logs. Very dog friendly with a great enclosed garden. Walks around Paxton House and the river beyond the house were stunning, so quiet and peaceful, we walked up the river to the suspension Bridge that connects Scotland to England…. Absolutely stunning We visited Holy Island and Cocklawburn beach that Lucy had recommended, worth a visit as so quiet! We were very lucky to see the local deer and seals at holy Island and finished with a nice Beer in the local pub!
We spent a lovely couple of days there in low season (mid-February). Cottage was lovely, cosy and clean. Much better than most holiday cottages we've stayed in (we didn't need clean the place on arrival). It felt very homely and personal rather than a bland neutral holiday cottage. Which was great, as due to poor weather we spent a lot of time inside. Messaged with Lucy a couple of times, and she was a very friendly and responsive host. Even proactively reaching out to see if everything was going well during our stay. Would definitely recommend Ivy Cottage to others.
The picturesque village of Paxton boasts character, community and tranquillity, with gardens blooming year round.
On the doorstep is Paxton House where you can take the time to explore the 18th century historic house and its 80 acres of grounds, stretching along the banks of the River Tweed, perhaps followed by a trip to the nearby Chain Bridge Honey Farm or a walk around the historic Berwick walls. There are many other wonderful places to visit across the Borders, we are happy to help you make the most of your stay.
There are limited local transport services around Paxton, so we recommend use of a car to explore locally. The roads are well suited for cyclists with some great routes on the doorstep, as there are walking routes.
The village is located only 10 minutes from Berwick, offering easy access to our stunning coastline and beyond. We are equidistant between Newcastle and Edinburgh at just over an hours car journey - or less on a train from Berwick's East Coast mainline station, should you wish to explore further away.
