Each of the four bedrooms has been beautifully decorated, and the large windows allow for plenty of natural light. One of the double bedrooms benefits from en suite shower facilities while the remaining three bedrooms have the house bathroom and a separate WC. The living area is where it all happens - "The Number 5 Social Hub" - where discussions are had about the day's activities, and delicious meals are prepared. On warmer days, why not open the bifold patio doors to enjoy the outdoor space and on colder days, light the fabulous wood-burning stove? Naturally, not everyone wants to cook while on holiday. Lovely cottage to stay in, in a beautiful location. The cottage has been set up great with the Lake District in mind with a garden and an included bike rack! The host had clear and very helpful communication in the run up to the stay and we felt well prepared.
The house was the perfect size for two families with young children. The children loved their room with the bunk beds and it was perfectly placed at the end of the house. The living area is a great space for everyone to eat, talk and cuddle up in the sofa to watch a film. The table easily sat the nine of us and the house was well equipped so we could cook and enjoy several meals together. It is a 5 minute walk to the pubs and shops and easy to escape for a quick coffee or pint. Ambleside has so many fantastic walks and we often walked from the house. I would thoroughly recommend this house for a big family or families looking to holiday together. It was an excellent week and many memories were made!
Ambleside is a fabulous location to holiday in the Lake District and it is a mecca for walkers with several walking routes starting from the Village including the relatively gentle Loughrigg Fell (332m) which offers breathtaking views of Windermere and The Langdale Pikes. Stock Ghyll Force is another popular and more leisurely walk where you'll find the 70ft waterfall.
Rydal (1.5 miles) and Grasmere (5 miles) are both within walking distance along a gravel route passing the Rydal Cave. Alternatively, hop onboard the Lakes Explorer bus that connects to Rydal, Grasmere, Thirlmere (for Helvellyn) and Keswick. All single-journey fares are capped at £2.00 until December 2024.
Ullswater is 14 miles away, via the scenic Kirkstone Pass, where you can hop onboard the Ullswater Steamers or perhaps tackle one of the surrounding fells such as Place Fell!
Keswick (17 miles) is a little further away but still worth a visit. Here you have Derwent Water which also offers boat cruises. Again you can hop on the bus for £2.00 per person - cheaper than trying to park in Keswick!
Windermere (4.5 miles) is where you'll find more shops, restaurants, cafes and bars and a little further down the road is Bowness-on-Windermere. We recommend catching the boat from Ambleside's Waterhead Pier to Bowness or staying onboard and continuing to Lakeside at the southern tip of Lake Windermere for the Lakes Aquarium and Haverthwaite Steam Train.
As you can see, there is plenty to do for all ages, so make Number 5 in Ambleside your next holiday cottage booking!
