Definitely have ivy cook for you ! Host lives on bottom floor so know it’s not completely private. There’s no AC but with windows open the breeze was enough for us , granted it was April. The bed was comfortable & view was amazing. Wifi isn’t reliable so don’t bank on always having it . Also no cell service at all in the area. There are no electric appliances because everything is solar power . I missed my coffee first thing in the mornings. There was tons of sargasso so the smell was bad & couldn’t access the ocean but that’s no fault of Ivy’s . If there was no sargasso it would have been a complete dream ! The town is very limited so stock up before you arrive. Only 2 others places to eat in town , no banks or gas stations . It was worth every penny for ivy’s food . Fresh coconut lobster , summer lobster spring roll , fresh fish & the biggest thing of lobster nachos I’ve ever seen .

We explored and collected coconuts We kayaked and snorkeled We relaxed under 100 year old palm trees We feasted on fresh lobster ceviche and coconut fish by Ivy Words cannot express how lovely our stay was. Ivy’s fish lab is a hidden gem. The dirt road was not a bad drive and is part of the charm of this off the beat and path secluded beach get away. We will be back again for a longer stay. Thank you for filling our souls with sunshine, great conversation and much needed relaxing

There are only 5 stars, Olmo, Ivy and Ceiba deserve 10 stars, their place is just for those are looking to be connected with the nature, isolated from every one and anything, is you and the sea, rhe host are really friendly and supportive, we arrived very late and they were waiting for us, next day early they welcome us with fresh coconut water, all the food they prepare is really fresh an organic, rhe beach is amaizing, warm, clean compared with othe places im Quintana Roo and the sagasso is minimun.. nothing to worry about. The are a reef in front like 800 meters and there are some tours to make snorkeling and visit the protected area of manaties, a lot of animals and birds sorroundimg the area is one of the few places that still untouched by the commercial bussiness, you can go to fish in open sea and prices are really afordable, don't expect luxury, the house have all the basic stuff to spend your days in a confortable way. The view from the terrace is unique, and the sea breeze keep you fresh all the nigth. Is a very special place with a strong energy. Be ready is a long trip to reach the place but at the end you will be satisfied with the conecction to nature, the place is pet friendly which is a plus. Making a reservation at Ivy's fish lab was the best thing we could have done. A perfect location for a trip to xcalak. Ivy and Olmo are exceptionally responsive, easy to communicate with and helpfull in any way possible. The place is very clean, gorgeous view of the ocean from the large balcony, comfortable and stocked with all that you could need. The ocean and reef are right out the door and they have kayaks and combo kayak/sups available to enjoy the water. Xcalak is a small town and is only 3 km down a very good road. We stocked up in Tulum and mahahual prior to getting there. If so inclined they offer a menu that sounds good and then is incredibly over the top good when delivered right to your door for dinner. Do not miss the ceviche, lobster spring rolls, Lobster tail, sushi, fresh fish.....too much to mention.

We stayed a week with Ivy, Olmo and Ceiba and had a wonderful time. The two bedroom unit worked perfectly for us during our stay. All of the basic necessities were available - small refrigerator, two-burner stove, pots, pans, silverware, and glasses. We really enjoyed the futon on the balcony and spent our downtime lounging in the sun reading and enjoying the numerous birds that lived in the area. Although there isn’t cell coverage in Xcalak (not a problem for us) we were able to connect to the WIFI available to stay in touch with our family. Kayaks are available to paddle out to the reef and do some snorkeling. The water in the Caribbean is amazing - it was 82 degrees in the water while we were there. The reef was full of sea life. When staying here one thing we wish we would have taken advantage of more is the food that Olmo and Ivy provide. We had their fish ceviche and their coconut crusted lobster and both were fantastic. When we did schedule meals, the seafood was as fresh as it possibly can get with excellent side dishes to compliment the meals. Our hosts provided us numerous coconut drinks and some fermented pineapple drinks - everything was delicious. When we come back, learning how to spearfish would be high on our priority list. Ivy and Olmo are also fantastic resources for local restaurants, places to kayak and things to see in the area. In the town of Xcalak, we enjoyed eating at Coco’s, The Reel Inn and the Coral Bar & Grill. When eating in town, the other visitors were fantastic to talk with most visiting the region to fly-fish. All the fisherman we spoke with knew exactly where we were staying as it is the last before the canal. Be sure when you stay to take advantage of the local produce offered by the food trucks (camions). We got some of the best fresh fruit we have ever had at a fraction of what we would pay here at home. On our trip we spent some time SCUBA diving in Xcalak and Mahahual and would highly recommend a trip to Banco Chinchorro if the weather permits. The dive shop in Xcalak (XTC Dive Center) and Mahahual (Amigos del Mar) were great to work with and schedule trips. Travel in and out of Xcalak is pretty simple but be sure you fill up your tank in Mahahual and we did our essential shopping in the town of Felipe Carrillo Puerto. We certainly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet and secluded location. Let go of your cell phones, computers, and “have-tos” and enjoy this beautiful location and perfect hosts. Thanks Olmo, Ivy and Ceiba and we hope to see you all again soon!
