Although rurally located the property is only 15 minutes either way to Tomar or Entroncamento, and within 5 minutes drive to the A13 and A23 motorways. This means you have access to a wide range of attractions – historic sites, quaint towns and villages, outdoor pursuits, river beaches, lakes and coastal spots to discover. The Caminho de Santiago also passes close by. From Entroncamento station it is a 50 minute fast train journey to Lisbon Oriente. The apartment has one twin bedroom. The bedroom has wardrobe/hanging space, bedside tables and lamps. There is a hairdryer for your use and USB charging points for your devices. The lounge is equipped with a bed settee and two armchairs. There is also a fold up bed for the fourth guest. There is a smart TV and free WiFi access. The spacious fully equipped dining kitchen has a 4 ring electric hob and oven, toaster, fridge/freezer, kettle and microwave oven plus dining table and chairs. The terrace has outdoor table and chairs and overlooks the surrounding countryside with sunset views to the Serra de Aire. The apartment has its own access from the ground floor with stairs on the outside of the property leading to a private terrace and the the accommodation on the first floor. There is ample on-road parking to the front of the property. The road is lit by street lights but is very quiet with very little passing traffic. Feel free to relax in our garden or wander through our orchard and vineyard. Help yourself to the fruit on the fig, orange, lemon, apple and pear trees. If you are here in September you are welcome to help us with the grape harvest. The country tracks that surround our place are ideal for exploring by foot or bike. Sample the local wine or coffee and pastel de nata in one of the village cafes. Wine tasting and tour of one of the local commercial vineyards can be arranged. If you want to leave the car behind transport can be arranged. Whether it's visits to see the sights and attractions, collection from the airport or station, transport of bikes, canoes or equipment etc Things to see and do….. 2024 Special Events *4th to the 13th NOVEMBER 2024 – LUSITANO HORSE FESTIVAL, GOLEGA *The incredible Knights Templar Festival takes place in 11th to 14th July 2024. There is a torch-lit Knights Parade, medieval banquets and a re-enactment of the Moorish siege of 1190 of the Knights Templar Castle. The next Festival is planned to take place in 2024. Tomar The site of the amazing Convent of Christ and Castle is just 15 minutes away. A further 5 minutes brings you to the spectacular Aqueduct which fed water to the convent and grounds from the 16th century onwards. Below the castle you can meander through the warren of ancient cobbled streets, stopping off in the charming shops, restaurants and bars along the way. Sit in the riverside café and watch the world go by or if you are feeling more active canoes and zorbs are available for hire or there is an outdoor swimming pool close by. Learn about the story of Tomar’s famous saint in the Chapel of Santa Iria and take a peek in the church of Sao Joao de Baptista. Find a bargain in the Friday morning Market or visit the workshop where ladies handcraft and paint tiles. Pop into the Matchbox museum in the same courtyard. Enjoy an evening of live music and delicious traditional Portuguese cuisine in the local Tabernaculo do Rio music bar. Booking recommended! The Industrial Museum (Fabrica des Artes) is a fascinating place to learn about the local industrial heritage. The Tagus River To the south of us runs the mighty Tagus River. Its headwaters are in Spain and it flows all the way from eastern Portugal to the Atlantic at Lisbon. Along the stretch close to us there are some interesting spots to visit. Almourol Castle sits proudly on an island in the middle of the river but it is possible to visit by boat. Be sure to visit the picturesque village of Constancia with its river beach, butterfly house, canoe hire and colourful Easter festival. Vila Nova de Barquinha with it’s modern sculpture park and the pretty riverside village of Tancos. In November there is the famous Lusitano Horse Festival which takes place at Golega. A fascinating and unique event to experience. Castelo de Bode reservoir The river Zezere flows into the 30 mile long Castelo de Bode reservoir. Along it’s shores there is the possibilities of windsurfing, paddle boarding, wake boarding, canoe and motor boat hire. The area is a great place to explore as there are river beaches, woodland paths as well as challenging trails for mountain biking. The pretty villages of Serra and Dornes are well worth visiting both with bars, restaurants and spectacular views. Ourem and around Ourem castle with spectacular views over the surrounding countryside, Leiria with its castle and excellent shopping opportunities, the Sanctuary of Fatima and the fascinating story of the appearance of the Madonna to 3 small children the last century, the Monastery of Batalha are all close by. In the Serra de Aire there are dinosaur footprints and dramatic limestone caves to discover, a water park and go-karting too. A little further north is Agroal river beach which has a crystal clear natural spring water lagoon to swim in, as well as a café/restaurant, shop and sunbathing area. Coast It’s a short hop along the IC9 road to reach the Silver Coast and a trio of three popular resorts. Nazare with its monster waves, Sao Martinho do Porto and its stunning crescent sands and the waves and surf of Foz de Arelha. Just inland from Foz is the beautiful seawater lagoon of Obidos where windsurfers, wingfoilers and kitesurfers fly back and forth on a breezy afternoon.
