This unique and stylish place is magical. Built around an old windmill, it is the perfect mix between a beautiful and serene setting, the convenience of nearby amenities and stylish interiors. It is the perfect blend between tradition, culture and modern sophistication, ideally located to explore Alentejo and only 45 min away from the Algarve beaches. This is our family's country house and spiritual retreat, a place is full of wonder. Available only during selected periods of the year. The building is composed of 2 volumes, the house and the windmill, both fully renovated in 2023. A small hall that leads to both areas. The house has 2 levels. The ground level is composed of an open space which includes a very spacious living room, dominated by a large sofa, a big screen smart tv and a fire place. The decoration is dominated by the stunning chandeliers and the tall wooden Chilean Mapuche art piece. On that same open space is the dining table and a fully equipped state of the art kitchen, accentuated by the stylist counter top. Behind the kitchen sits the storage room as well as the bathroom. Upstairs sits the bedroom and the terrace. All furniture is brand new including a king size bed. The terrace enjoys beautiful sunrise views of the surrounding fields. The windmill side is composed of 3 levels. There is no AC in the windmill side. The lower level has a small fireplace room which connects with a bathroom. The old stairs connect up to a bedroom, with 2 single beds. These can be connected for couples. The top level is the lounge. A room we use to play music, read or work on our laptops. If has beautiful sunset views and a magic all of its own.

Unique property located in beautiful surroundings. If you are looking for a unique and historic place to stay, but don't want to sacrifice modern comforts, this property offers a perfect balance of both. The terrace was a great place to have our morning coffee and watch the sunrise. Miguel was a great host and very proactive and responsive. The check-in process was very easy and although the home is quite remote, we no difficulty getting there. We spent the majority of our time relaxing, walking our dog and watching the sheep graze in the surrounding fields, but there are still some great places to explore nearby. Miguel provided some great recommendations for day trips. There are also a few beautiful wineries within a 30 - 60 min drive. Would love to visit again in the future!
Die ehemalige Windmühle von Sao Bras ist in einer unglaublich schönen Region des südlichen Alentejo gelegen, mit vielen Korkeichen und (im Frühjahr) einem Blütenmeer und vielen Vögeln. In der Unterkunft ist alles vorhanden, was man für einen angenehmen Aufenthalt benötigt. Badezimmer und Küche sind modern ausgestattet und mit einigen Maschinen versehen, die einem den Aufenthalt angenehmer machen. Auch ein Kamin ist verfügbar, der besonders in der kühleren Jahreszeit sehr hilfreich sein kann, um das Haus zu temperieren. Darüber hinaus gibt es aber auch AC und Heizung. Die historische Mühle ist komplett einsam gelegen. Es gibt vollständige Ruhe und Privatsphäre. Mit dem Auto ist man schnell in Ourique bei Läden und Restaurants. Einige kleinere sehenswerte Städte und Dörfer, sowie die westliche als auch südliche Küste der Algarve sind mit einer Fahrzeit von ca. 1 Stunde gut erreichbar. Miguel ist ein sehr engagierter und freundlicher Gastgeber, Kommunikation war perfekt und schnell!
Nous avons passé un bon séjour de 1 mois chez Miguel. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié l’espace, la vue, le jardin, les équipements modernes. Quelques petits points sont à améliorer pour que la maison soit parfaite. Miguel est un hôte très disponible, sympa, prévenant, soucieux de notre confort et notre bien être. Merci pour tout ça Miguel. Nous reviendrons avec plaisir !
I stayed here with my Wife and dog for 5 weeks. The Windmill is set within wood pasture with abundant cork oak trees. The fields are grazed by sheep with their ever present Guardian dogs. Occasionally black pigs (Porco Preto) would pass through the fields and sometimes along the roads too. Lots of birds including corn hunting, hoppoes, lesser spotted woodpecker, and Scup’s Owl at night. There are lots of tracks in the area to walk and the windmill is close to the Ourique gravel bike path. The sunsets are amazing from the windmill and the sky is clear with low levels of light pollution. The house comprises the windmill and the modern house which are linked. We used the windmill for yoga but mainly stayed within the main section of the house. It’s windmill is such a cool historical feature. There are loads of them dotted around Alentejo. Great place for our dog, nice local towns, good location to Algarve and west coast, quite setting, cool building, and friendly helpful host!
I miss the amazing view and tranquility. The house is very comfortable and roomy, with everything that you could require. Miguel is extremely responsive, friendly and helpful. As stated in the listing, the stairs up to the bedroom in the mill are not for anyone with mobility issues or younger children. The home is extremely private and yet the stores are only a 15-minute drive away. We would love to stay here again sometime.

The house sits 10 minutes away from Ourique, the nearest town where you will find supermarkets, restaurants and any other amenities. There are several beautiful Alentejo towns at quick range, such as Castro Verde, Beja, Almodovar, Aljezur or Mértola. Each one wonderfully charming.
The house also sits just 45 minutes from the beaches of Albufeira in Algarve and 55 minutes from the surf of the West Coast beaches.
The house sits near two main highways, the national highway IP1 and the toll freeway A2 to quickly connect you to Lisbon and Faro airports. A car is convenient to arrive and move around. But alternatively you can use a local taxi to move around. There’s a train station 20 minutes away.
