Take it easy at this unique tranquil off-grid, getaway. The secluded and private Stone Cottage is nestled among lush indigenous trees and next to a irrigation canal. Thatched and built from stone the cottage offers stunning views into a verdant garden and over a farm dam. Everything on the property, from the food we grow to how we live, work and generate electricity is based on being environmentally sustainable. South Africa's leading lithography studio, The Artists' Press is also located here. The upstairs bedroom has a double bed with pure cotton linen, a feather duvet in winter and a light cotton quilt for summer. The generous windows offer views of the tree canopy and are ideal for birdwatching. Relax on the bed and watch kingfishers, paradise flycatchers and purple crested turacos in the branches. As the sun sets you may be lucky to spot our resident bushbabies. Downstairs is a well-equipped kitchen, a calm working space and a living area with a cosy wood fireplace and ample comfy seating. A second bed can be prepared on the futon in the lounge area. The bathroom is brightly mosaiced and includes a shower and a closable door. WE WELCOME DIGITAL NOMADS - Fast, stable wifi - dedicated worktable with an ergonomic chair - stable electricity 24/7 Outside the cottage is an outdoor braai and seating area above a gently gurgling canal in the shade of banana and waterberry trees. The downstairs bathroom is brightly mosaiced and includes a shower.
Just as every other review says, what a find! Beautiful property, gardens are stunning, Tamar is so accomodating and even gave us suggestions for our trip to Cape Town, and I now think I want a Greyhound as my next dog after meeting her two gentle giants! Thank you
We had a beautiful, quiet stay away from the noise and irritations of city living. Tamar and Mark are great fun and very good hosts. The dogs are just lovely. Lima would say hi every morning. Just smiling and being lovely.
This must be one of the best kept secrets on Airbnb. It really is a destination in itself. We were warmly welcomed by Tamara, Mark and Simon. As we arrived Mark showed us around his studio and we could see the uniquely creative and beautiful work he does there. After that we were able to join them on a walk with the greyhounds through the macadamia and pecan orchards. Another highlight was the tour of their remarkable Permaculture vegetable garden. I got to taste the most delicious organic apple ever grown in the tropics. Our unit was strikingly and tastefully decorated. The beds were extremely comfortable with the most luxurious linen. Can’t wait to return.
There is so much to say. This cottage is so magical, the gardens are amazing. I have an interest in indigenous gardening so it was so nice to see how so much love has gone into this garden. From the first moment of driving in I could just feel that this place is balm for the soul. If you are looking for an eco conscious off grid breakaway, which is connected to nature and you like quirky and different and a little boho, then this is the spot. It is a unique destination in every way. It is well suited to spiritual breakaways, especially for creatives and those who need to retreat for quietness and peace and to recharge. From the call of the Burchall's Coucal in the morning, to the nightjars in the evenings, the sound of running water, the view over the dam, you can just soak it all in. I promise you will leave feeling recharged and connected in a conscious way. I had previously intended this would be my last visit to Mpumalanga, but now I am finding reasons to visit again!
We are in a farming area between Nelspruit and White River. Our valley is home to avocado, macadamia nut, kiwi and citrus orchards.
The last kilometre to us is on a gravel farm road suitable for a low-clearance vehicle. Own vehicle is required as there is no reliable and safe public transport or else contact us for airport shuttle and tour service provider recommendations. Parking is free and there is lots of it!
We are 25 kms from Mbombela/Nelspruit and 12 kms from White River. The Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport is 26 kms away. The Phabeni Gate to the Kruger National Park is 70 kms from us. We do not recommend using the Numbi Gate which is 33 kms away.
