Angus is lovely and his farm and accommodation are beautiful. Your experience on his property will heal the soul!
The place has a warm atmosphere with the dog, birds, cat, alpacas and wombat. The sky at night has many stars, a large difference from urban areas. The tips from Angus were informative, assistive and useful. I would strongly recommend this for people who like to explore.
Too good to be true, you bet! My children and I were so excited about this trip. Angus at first was super charming. I did feel strangely obligated to talk with him for a long time, though, and did so for several hours. Talk included his redneck neighbours and American politics and little of what I had to say seemed of interest to him. He also told me he was gay which I was surprised about considering all the crosses and Jesus and Mary pics on the wall. It actually put my mind at ease as the lady I had thought lived there too, was not present. After a few hours I went inside; Angus had been smoking and drinking wine outside the whole time. As I was tired from the drive I sat inside with my kids and played a few games. Angus said he was going for a nap. Later, when I was making dinner, he seemed odd but didn't say anything. He said goodnight to us all and went to his room. About half an hour later, around 8pm, Angus got up and went into the kitchen. He started slamming windows shut, got himself a bowl of chips and returned his room. I said to my kids, "you'd best move those charges before Betty comes in" it was at this point that Angus came roaring up the hall, ripping the charges out of their sockets and dumping them on the table. He said "you have no reviews and I have many". He then said in a very angry voice, "your kids are rude! Your kids are rude!" I said, " I'm sorry what's happened, what have they done?" He said, " they've barely said a word to me since they got here. Alexander, gave me the stink eye when I asked about his name". My child's name is Alex, it's never been Alexander. I had told Angus this earlier. Angus came right up to Alex's face and said Alexandria, is that your name, huh? I said no it's not, but Alex is Trans. He yelled "I knew it, from the moment I saw you, I knew it. I knew you people would be trouble even before you arrived." Angus then proceeded to belittle my other child about his hair. He told us by morning he wanted us gone. I said we would leave right now. As I was packing my things to go he was shouting abuse at me. If I tried to respond he said "shut your mouth, this is my home, so shut your mouth". At one point I heard a commotion in the room my kids had their stuff in. Angus was yelling at Alex. I heard him say "how dare you lock the door on me, this is my home..." I stormed in and told Angus to leave my child alone. Later I found out from Alex that he had tried busting in the room when Alex was getting changed. Alex had called out, "I'm changing". Angus had gone round to the external door and busted in saying "getting changed are you?" Both my children ran to the car while I grabbed the last of our things, although I left quite a few things in my rush. At this time Angus was calling me a bitch, that I need help, that I should drink some wine to relax and that I'm a bad mother. He also blew smoke straight in my face several times and when I asked him if he was on something he said "yes". He said, "I know women who laugh like you". Just before leaving he threatened to call the cops. This experience traumatised my children and left me never wanting to use airbnb again.
Angus' house is a really cute stone building with amazing views of the stunning valley scenery. The rooms are very comfortable and the house is lovely and cosy. Angus is an excellent and warm host, we felt like we were friends immediately and enjoyed some great chats. We loved the property and the animals. We could bush walk up the hill behind the house, the kids ran and ran with the animals and loved that interaction so much, we even caught a yabbie in the dam. Betty the wombat was a highlight - what a character to have around the house! The kids and Jack the Kelpie completely fell in love with each other. All around a wonderful, relaxing trip for both adults and kids.
We had a wonderful time at Angus's home. The valley views are absolutely incredible and we enjoyed having our breakfast on the front porch and lounging in the hammock in the afternoons. The animals are so friendly and we loved feeding the alpacas and hanging out with Betty, Jack, and Leo. Recommend staying for at least two nights and renting a 4WD car if possible - the unsealed roads can get a little muddy. Overall, a relaxing experience perfect for any nature/animal lovers. Angus was an incredible host and we can't wait to return!
