Tastefully modernised & extended railway station cottage, dating back to 1875. Now a spacious and comfortable home for up to 8 people, lots of parking, indoor storage & enclosed south-facing rear garden. In the lovely village of West Tanfield, with 2 popular pubs & village PO/shop and great walking within 5 mins stroll. Ideally positioned for discovering North Yorkshire, Masham, Lightwater Valley & Ripon are only a few minutes away by car & Harrogate, Helmsley and York are within easy reach. Please see the floor layouts in 'photos'. The cottage is a bit of a tardis and has lots of character! The open plan kitchen-dining area also incorporates a 'living area' with comfy seating for 5 people. The dining area also provides a common area with fast fibre wifi suitable for working. The ¾ sized garage is a very useful unloading/loading area, also good for bikes/prams etc. There is also covered outside storage which leads to the rear of the house. The garden is completely enclosed and good for dogs. 4 cars should have no problem parking on the gravelled area to the front of the property.

This is probably the best holiday let we have stayed in; almost everything was better than at home. The house is clean, comfortable and well-equipped, freshly and tastefully decorated, new good quality furnishings. Lovely bright, large kitchen/diner space with patio doors to the garden where there is a bench which gets the morning sun. All you would hope for regarding the bedrooms, bathroom and sitting room, plus a large warm utility room for drying outdoor coats and a half-sized garage where wet boots dried overnight. Room to park three cars. Quiet village location but a few minutes walk from the friendly shop which stocks fresh food as well as storecupboard items. We look forward to returning one day!
Another great stay at Station Cottage in West Tanfield, with our only regret that we didn’t book for longer! House is immaculately clean and although there were only 2 of us staying, it’s definitely spacious enough if using all 4 bedrooms. Kitchen / dining area is such a warm and sunny room, perfect space for breakfast and dinner and this time round there was an Alexa - this was super handy for music (no need to bring a speaker) or if wanting to check the weather forecast etc. West Tanfield is a great location to explore from, we did walk 4 of Hackfall Woods (highly recommend), Masham and Richmond this time round. Hackfall was very muddy so it was great to have use of the garage and large utility to get clean and dry, without traipsing through the house! Amazing and very handy to have 2 great pubs in the village and everyone was friendly and welcoming in the village shop too. Hoping the return before the year is out.
Our second stay in a lovely comfortable house that is very easy to relax in. Loved the log burner. The village is lovely with 2 smashing pubs in walking distance. Both have great beer and good food. The locals are very friendly and welcoming. Some lovely walks from house and great places to visit a short car journey away - a perfect base for us. Would highly recommend
This characterful property is situated on the edge of a smart new housing estate in the delightful village of West Tanfield. A perfect village for your holiday, with its 2 highly regarded and busy pub/restaurants, the well-stocked general store/Post Office, bowling club, tennis courts and children play areas all within 5 mins stroll. There is great walking from the village along the banks of the beautiful river Ure and also to the Nosterfield bird hides. Angling is available at nearby Tanfield Lakes. The church and the Marmion Tower are worth checking out too. Very nearby is Lightwater Valley Adventure Park, Masham with its 2 famous breweries, Thorp Perrow Arboretum, the small cathedral city of Ripon with its Racecourse, Fountains Abbey and so much more. West Tanfield is on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales and the North Yorkshire Moors are also only 35 minutes away.
All local amenities are accessible within 5 minutes on foot, with no more than a very gentle slope and pavements. There is plenty of off-road parking on the gravelled area to the front of the property, 4 vehicles, sensibly parked shouldn't be a problem and there is plenty of room for bikes, prams etc in the heated garage which also has electric up and over door. There are regular buses from the village to Ripon, Masham and Bedale. Ripon taxis are easily available and reasonably priced, we use them for nights out in Ripon.

I live near Barnard Castle, with my wife and Tetley the dog. My interests are hiking, gardening, sport, socialising and good food. Attempting boogie woogie on the piano too. This is our third holiday home, the 1st was in Nelson New Zealand, the 2nd was in Harrogate and now this one is probably our last. We know what we like in a holiday property and have worked hard to create a home again that hopefully everyone will appreciate and enjoy.
