While this upstairs room isn’t air conditioned, the whole outer wall is a screen door that allows access to lake breezes and an upper deck. Why be inside when you could be out? The deck is perfect for sunrise yoga or relaxing in a hammock in the evening after a long day of activities. The bathroom is also located on the first floor. This shower has been newly retiled with a traditional style ceramic and features adjustable hot water. There is also a second shower outside that’s perfect for rinsing off after a swim or a muddy hike. And when it comes to activities, this area of Ometepe has plenty to offer. The house is located on the paved road just a kilometer and a half from Balgue, a small local town. In Balgue you find the trailhead to hike the Maderas volcano, as well as a natural spring where you can swim. And whether you want to eat out or cook at home, there are also many restaurants and small stores close nearby by. While there are things to do within walking distance of the house, keep in mind Ometepe is a large island and taxi service is expensive. If you wish to explore more than a tiny area of it we recommend you either come in your own vehicle or rent one while you are here. We are happy to help you organize any tours or transportation you need during your stay at Casa Lora.
Casa Lora is a little gem! our family of 5 (3 kids, ages 12, 10, and 6) loved it! A little bit out of town so a car, ATV, scooter would be necessary. It's quiet, the view and pool are amazing! Minnie, the resident cat, will be around but for us it was an added bonus. The kitchen is well stocked, best out of all our Airbnb's in Nica. Internet worked great, AC in the bedroom downstairs, spacious layout inside and out. Pool caretakers were there to get the pool ready every morning for the day. Rachel is very responsive with any issue you have and even helped get us ferry reservations for our ride over. The island of Ometepe is extraordinary! We wish we had scheduled more time there during our trip. So bugs, there are going to be lots of bugs but that is just how it is. We all agreed dealing with the bugs was worth the experience of the island. Also, Rachel runs Pan de Mama bakery in Santa Cruz so stop in and get some treats! We loved the chocolate cupcakes, lattes, and bread!
Wow so much to say. First depending on your expectations you may need to adjust them. The island of Ometepe is magical and resources to stay are limited. My stay on Ometepe was one of the best experiences I have had in my life and if I was afraid to go because of insects I would not have had this experience. Insects on Ometepe housing is not easy to get away from. I was not used to this but the place was charming g and the pool in front of the lake breathtaking. The location is perfect, so close to micro culture community yes isolated and quiet. Rachael the owners daughter in law is the best resource. She takes care of absolutely any problem you have and gives you the best advice while on the island. I am Noe back in Houston living my luxurious city life and I love to be back in Ometepe with the people and with Rachael. Get over the bugs and enjoy the magic that Ometepe has to offer.
The whole island is a "glamping" island given that its a nature reserve. However, Sally's place provided additional comforts that made the stay better. The pool is beautiful and a great layout/design. The lake was only a few steps away which was fun to play in as well (no sandy beach, but not needed with the pool). The house had AC in the master bedroom which was amazing! The rest of the house was fine but just remember to clean up really well after you eat otherwise bugs will appear. Oh, the fridge and WIFI worked great! The house cat is harmless and cute, but clingy at night.
very nice accommodation. would recomend everytime for visiting Ometepe for a few days !
I stayed here in February of 2024. The place is in a great location if you're looking g for privacy. I would recommend having a way to get around like a scooter, car, or atv as it is a bit of a walk to any stores. The pool was a fantastic way to cool off in the afternoons. From the driveway, you have a fantastic view of Maderas Volcano. Absolutely lightning fast replies from the host and co-hosts. There is a wonderful cat that is super friendly that hangs around. It's a nice addition! Some of the reviews refer to insects at the place. There are some around as the place is surrounded by very well maintained gardens and is tucked into the forest on a volcanic island in Central America... insects are to be expected. It's definitely not a deal breaker. There is a maintenance that stops by once a day and takes care of the gardens and pool. He does an excellent job. The pool is clean and very inviting. Overall, a great bang for your buck! Go check it out.
Located close to the Balgue/Santa Cruz there are a number of activities and restaurants nearby. You can hike a volcano, stop by a coffee shop, or take a chocolate tour.
