多塞特(Dorset) · 整套民居 · 2室3床1.0卫 · 可住5人 · Cosy, contemporary Dorset cottage
Built in the late 1700s our Grade 2 listed cottage was originally a stable, but is now a beautifully renovated home retaining many original features and all the mod cons needed for a cosy, luxurious break. Situated in the heart of the market town of Sturminster Newton, The Old Stable has all conveniences on its doorstep and delightful rural riverside walks from its door. Within an hour's drive are numerous National Trust sites, the stunning Jurrasic Coast and the New Forest National Park. Filled with character you’ll enter The Old Stable into its terracotta tiled hallway with its ancient wood-panelled walls. Leading off of the hall is the open-plan Living Room and Kitchen with its bright east/west aspect which floods with light. With its Rayburn in kitchen and log burner in the living room this is a really cosy space, in colder months, to cook meals, snuggle up and generally relax in. The kitchen has beautiful, original French doors leading out into the cute walled, courtyard garden. There’s a dining table that comfortably seats 6 and a dishwasher to do the chores! The entrance hallway also leads into the lovely Utility Room at the back of the house which is home to the washing machine, lots of storage and work surfaces and a window seat for putting on your boots. The top of the twisting staircase opens out into an unusually spacious, wood-panelled landing area with exposed beam, antique school desk for working from home and doors leading off into the 2 bedrooms and bathroom. The bathroom has a beautiful claw-foot bath which is ideal for spoiling yourself with a long relaxing soak (and also has a shower over it if you’re in more of a rush!). The bedrooms are super cosy; a double and a king size separated by a unique wooden wall. Outside the cottage has the cutest, west-facing, private walled garden which catches the sun through the afternoon and early evening. There’s a BBQ for al fresco cooking.
Located on Church Street, in the heart of 'Stur' we have St Mary's C of E church at one end of the road and all the town's shops, pubs and eateries very close by at the other end. Although there is no parking immediately outside the cottage there are numerous free and paid for options for parking easily nearby.
There are 2 pubs in the centre of Stur, one of which has an open fire and both of which serve food. There are Chinese, Pizza and Fish & Chip takeaways an Indian restaurant/take-away and a Bar/Brasserie.
Shopping - Stur is most famous for 'Harts of Stur' which is its very own 'department store'! A most unlikely shopping opportunity in such a small town but Harts is like a (very) mini and rural John Lewis with its extensive Homewares, Clothing and Garden departments and its own very popular cafe.
Apart from Harts there is an excellent butcher/deli, a greengrocer, a florist, an artisan bakery and a couple of cafes. Uniquely there are also some excellent second-hand shops (Homewares, Furniture and Clothing) run by, and for, the local community.
Whilst most easily accessed by car, Sturminster Newton is less than 10 miles from the mainline train stations in Gillingham and Templecombe with links to London, Exeter and Bath.
Surminster Newton itself is also served by bus services which connect it directly to Blandford Forum and the beautiful historic towns of Sherborne (with its abbey) and Shaftesbury (with Gold Hill, famous for appearing in 1970's Hovis ads!).
