The most important thing to know is we are 2 miles from the closest town (Thurso). The location of the Garden Room is in the small hamlet of Scrabster which is situation above Scrabster Harbour. It is a rural setting but with that goes peace and quiet. Also worth noting is we are only a few minutes drive to the ferry terminal to catch the Hamnavoe which sails several times a day to Stomness in Orkney.
The Garden Room is within easy walking distance of the harbour where there are 3 outstanding restaurants, The Captain’s Galley, Capilla and the Upper Deck. As well as the restaurants there is a pub and a cafe.
If you enjoy a good hike we are minutes away from the start of the Holbornhead trail. It is a breathtaking walk with a rugged coastline and has amazing views of Orkney and Dunnet Head (the most northerly point of the British mainland).
If you want to pop into Thurso it is a few minutes drive or alternatively there is a stunning 40 minute coastal walk. Thurso provides many more restaurants, cafes, shops, a museum, a golf course, churches, a railway station and some other fabulous coastal and river walks.

We are in the rural highlands so the best way to get around is by car and if you have a car we have ample parking. If you’re using public transport the train station is a 5 minute taxi drive from us. The x99 bus runs between Inverness and Scrabster harbour, the bus will stop within minutes of the accommodation.
