About Jambavan Art Sanctuary You will be staying on the first floor in a 3 bedroom house which we fondly call the ‘Jambavan Art Sanctuary’. The Art Sanctuary is a part of ‘Jambavan Arts Collective’, an Arts & Community destination in Varkala. This space was built in November 2022 by Avneeth and Anvita, two artists who found love and healing in Art and Music and wanted to create a safe space for many others to experience the magic of Healing Arts. We both live on the ground floor space of the Art Sanctuary. Guests booking the entire house or a single room on the first floor will have their own private entrance. From Nov 2022 – Feb 2023, in Jambavan Arts Collective we held many beautiful gatherings, where art & music lovers, dreamers & seekers from all over the world came together to make art, play music, make new friends, share a laugh or two but most importantly reconnect with their inner-child in creative and playful ways. And now we welcome you into the next phase of our journey. Meet our newest kid on the block, ‘Jambavan Art Sanctuary’, a home where you can live surrounded by art, music, nature, friends and lots of love. Situated in a quiet, serene corner of Varkala, 10-15 minutes walking from the beach, this is where you can rest and relax & take a creative, soulful break. The ‘Jambavan Art Sanctuary’ comprises of the following spaces: The Home: A fully furnished 3 bedroom house that has been decorated with love and handmade Sacred Geometry Art made by Avneeth, the co-host of this listing and co-creator of Jambavan Arts Collective. (Avneeth is a seasoned artist who has been making Mandalas for a decade now and has developed his own unique visual language.) The house is a unique experience in itself. Shine a UV Torch (we will give you one) on the artwork laid out in the house and see them come alive. We believe that spaces have their own unique personalities and have stories to tell. In keeping with the spirit of that, each space in the Sanctuary has been done up in original handmade art to bring alive the attributes of that space and to tap into what the space wants us to take from it. The Sanctuary has 3 private rooms with en-suite washrooms: Room1: ‘Surya’ Room: The word ‘Surya’ in Sanskrit means ‘The Sun’. This room has been decorated with original handmade Sacred Geometry Art to pay homage to our celestial father, The Sun, the one that makes life on this planet possible. Room2: ‘Bhoomi’ Room: The word ‘Bhoomi’ in Sanskrit means ‘The Earth’. This room has been decorated with original handmade Sacred Geometry Art to pay homage to our celestial Mother, The Earth, and the beautiful planet on which we get to have this human experience. Room 3: ‘Chandra’ Room: The word ‘Chandra’ in Sanskrit means ‘The Moon’. This room has been decorated with original handmade Sacred Geometry Art to pay homage to our celestial Sister, The Moon, that lights up our nights with breathtaking clarity and radiant beauty— compassion and unconditional love radiating from the core of her being. There would be a bit of a magical surprise waiting for you in each of the rooms. Tip: Switch off the lights of the room and point a UV torch (we will provide you one) on the Mandala in the room an watch the artwork come to life! Each room is fully furnished with a bed, table, cupboard, attached washroom, clothes hangar. Guests will be provided with bed linen, towels, hand towels, laundry and room cleaning facilities & air-conditioning. Kitchen space: The house has a well-stocked kitchen complete with two burner gas and cylinder, refrigerator, mixer and grinder, cooking and eating utensils and basic condiments such as salt, sugar oil, coffee, etc Guests are welcome to cook their own meals. There is a small balcony attached to the kitchen. Lobby: The shared space outside of the rooms has a dining area, a sofa, a floor sitting area, a few books and board games for you to enjoy. Patio: Adjoining the lobby on the outside is the patio space done up in original art by a budding artist from Thissur. Relax and let go of all that worries you. Read a book, paint something, and listen to some music as you melt into the quietude of this quaint little space. Vayu: The top most section of the house, the terrace is surrounded by trees on most sides. On most days a nice cool breeze is always blowing across the space giving it the quality of natural ventilation. This is our creative temple. The crown of the house, it is the apex of our sanctuary where you can levitate, meditate or create whatever is inspiring you in the moment. In this space we also come together for our immersive art, music and community gatherings. This space also houses ‘Dhwani’ our music space. Dhwani: Frequencies that can be heard by living beings are called “Dhwani” in Sanskrit. It is the sound that you hear when vibrations travel through air or water. The music and sound space has as such, been rightly placed in the ‘Vayu’ (Air) section of the sanctuary. Here we intend to create, co-create sound and music & use it as a holistic healing modality that will attempt to bring the body, mind, emotions and spirit back into harmony. The space has 3 Guitars ( 2 Classic, 1 Semi-Acoustic, 2 Ukulele, a Kalimba, a Djembe, a Keyboard, a bansuri, A Native American Flute, an idiophone and last but by no means the least a beautiful instrument called ‘ Psaltery ‘ from the medieval times. Tara: This is the library space of the Sanctuary, where one can go into new dimensions of stories with the many books in the library as ‘Tara’ our ancient goddess of Transformation looks upon us with her attentive yet kind gaze. This library has over 150 books spanning diverse genres from fiction to spirituality to poetry to biographies to some old classics. Dhara: The word ‘ Dhara’ in sanskrit refers to as that which is flowing. In ‘Dhara’ the flow space of the Sanctuary, you can flow into art, into craft, into dance, into stillness, into expression or introspection, this is the space to let go and shape whatever the heart wants to flow into. Come as a stranger and leave as a dear friend.
I stayed in Jambavan Arts Sanctuary for a week and had one of the most serene and healing week of my life in a long time. This place is run by two very passionate people who go out of their way to ensure a safe and nurturing environment for everyone who visits here. I also held space for a few events here such as Tango, Qi Gong and Conscious Connected Breathwork and got a chance to interact with the community here. I love the proximity of this place to Mama Ocean and made it a point to visit her everyday of my stay here. There are a bucket load of fond memories of my stay here namely- spending some quality time with Frida the resident cat, having many beautiful conversations with Anvita and Avneeth over cups of chai and freshly made cake. I particularly enjoyed the quietude of this place as it allowed me to go inwards and nourish my inner child. I would highly recommend those who are reading this, to definitely visit this place when they are in Varkala. It will be worth your while.
