St Peter's Village · 整套民居 · 3室0床3.5卫 · 可住6人 · Providence: Paul McCartney's former hideaway
Providence Estate House, a unique historic Caribbean house, was the home of Paul McCartney and his family when he recorded "Tug of War" and "Ebony and Ivory" with Stevie Wonder in 1981. Originally built in 1918, it was rebuilt following 1989's Hurricane Hugo. Completely private, set in 10 acres on a breezy hilltop with sunset views overlooking the Caribbean from almost 600 feet, you will love the space, peace and serenity of this classical home and its beautiful setting. The main (upper) floor consists of a large great room with a cathedral ceiling, a large master bedroom, a large bathroom with whirlpool tub, a large kitchen, and a fully covered verandah that wraps around 3 sides of the building. The lower floor has a large bedroom with large bathroom, a smaller bedroom with small bathroom, and a living room. Both lower bedrooms have direct access to the pool deck, which has a wet bar with refrigerator. All beds are queen beds. Like almost all homes in Montserrat, there is no airconditioning, but there are fans, the cooling tradewinds are almost constant, and the thick stone walls help to keep the downstairs rooms cool. The pool is one of the largest in Montserrat; it is completely private, visible only from the house itself. Furnishings are a mixture of antiques that have been with the house for many years with some modern pieces. Surrounding the house is an extensive lawn and innumerable palms, fruit trees, and ornamental plants, and the garden features a traditional West Indian stone bread oven and "copper" boiling pans, used to reduce sugar cane juice to molasses, from Montserrat's sugar era.
This property is a gem. I really enjoyed my stay, it was so relaxing, I enjoyed walking through the backyard of the house at night and seeing all the clear stars. The veranda was great for enjoying meals, and sipping coffee or hot chocolate in the mornings, or having tea in the later afternoon. The views look across the sea to the island of Nevis. I enjoyed swimming in the beautiful pool, and making some home cooked meals. The classic design of the interior is very elegant, the house is pristine. I enjoyed walking it's grounds, and looking at all the plant life. I also liked the photos and art throughout the interior, highlighting the intriguing history of the home. It's location is also perfect for navigating the island. I am very grateful for my stay, and hope to stay again when visiting Montserrat.

Monserrat is a captivating island and Providence is a wonderful place to stay. I can't imagine anyone being disappointed. Highly recommended. Paul Smith and Maggie Jones.
We couldn’t have found a better place to stay for our multigenerational family trip to Montserrat. Tony and Marlene, along with Yvette locally, were ideal hosts both in preparation for this visit as well as connecting us with helpful information once there. This is a beautiful and precious spot on a treasure of an island that we are each ever so grateful to have experienced. The home is spacious, the views incredible, and the grounds delightful. We could have easily stayed much longer.
The house is on the outskirts of the small village of St Peter's. It is very private, while being just a few hundred yards from the main road
The house has lots of space for parking, which is never an issue in Montserrat. A rental car is strongly recommended, but you can walk - strenuously if you like steep hills! - use taxis, local minibuses, or just stand by the side of the road and wave down people for a ride - yes, people do that here!

Tony is originally from London, and Marlene is from Haiti. We lived in Montserrat for many years in the 1980s and 90s before moving to the US (we live in the Charleston, SC area) but as retirement beckons we are spending more time in Montserrat. Tony is a family doctor, and Marlene is a former registered nurse, now massage therapist, yoga teacher, and is also a passionate gardener. We love traveling but return to Montserrat as often as we can!
