You will find our home in what is known as The Land Between which extends up to the Canadian Shield and down to the St Lawrence Lowlands, spanning from Parry Sound to the Ottawa Valley. Many of us here hold this land as a final opportunity to protect and recover nature, the plant and animal species that are disappearing and all the benevolence that nature is for all of us.
We are situated in Cooper Hamlet on the west side of the Black River, which flows from an unnamed lake in the Cashel Township covering part of the western border of approx 30,000 acres of protected crown land. It is still raw and wild here. Coyotes howl from the endless forest and fields every night. The winds carry the sound of the uninfringed vastness that surrounds us from all sides.
The land that we claim as our home, is bordered by a small frog inhabited lake that falls and then streams through the neighbouring land, irrigating it and the local wildlife and livestock.
Water also Springs forth on our land from the rocky pedosphere below and we drink, wash and are nourished with this water that flows continuously and supplies the taps of our home
On this land, the brilliance and richness of life is felt profoundly and we are reconnected to what is simple and meaningful.

We are 16 minutes north of the town of Madoc, up and off of Cooper rd in the Cooper Hamlet.
There are ATV trails through the endless crown land that lead to many regional lakes, the largest being Lingham Lake which attracts anglers from all over for its abundance of fish.
There are approximately 35 kms of forested trails & lakes between our home and the well known cliffs and lakes of Bon Echo park which would make it possible to traverse by ATV or the most ambitious of hiking and exploring. Otherwise the park can be accessed through 72 kms local roads and highways and is an approximate 50 minute drive from us.
Madoc was established as a rest stop for early travellers commuting between the cities of Toronto & Ottawa. It is exactly at the mid point between the 2 cities. It was also a logging town and the center of Ontario's first gold rush in nearby Eldorado in the mid 1800s. Cheese making also became a popular endeavour in early Madoc history.
Madoc is a small town with a local Foodmart, a handful of local dine restaurants; Madoc Dairy Burnside's Casual Dining, Firehall Food Fun & Friends, Welcome International Restaurant, Ace Pizzeria, Gordino's Pizza & Sunny Side Up. A local Tim Horton's & McDonalds can always be found if you are for some reason desperate in the woods and there are other choices in nearby towns of Tweed & Marmora.
There is also a really nice bakery...The Hidden Goldmine Bakery and a superb local brewer ...7/62 Craft Brewers. Ivanhoe Cheese is a really nice local cheese house run in the nearby Ivanhoe Mennonite community. Madoc also has a real and the best Thrift Store in the country run by volunteers with all proceeds going to local charities.
For further reference, we are 2hrs 20mins east & north of Toronto, 50mins north of Belleville, 1hr 30mins north east of Kingston, with Ottawa 2 hours 20mins to our east, Bancroft 45mins north of us and Algonquin Park 2 hours to the north west.
There is enough parking for 1 car per individual or couple who stay.
Getting around the land here is primarily by foot.
There are plenty of trails to explore on bicycle or ATV if you have and want.
Canoes and paddle boards are available to navigate the lake on our property.
