Stay in a funky updated carriage house! Located among a line up of stunning historic homes in the Southmoreland neighborhood, very close to The Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City Art Institute, The Nelson-Atkins Art Museum and walking distance to The Plaza and Westport areas. We completely revived and updated the private studio-apartment above the connected carriage house in 2023 inspired by modern art and Kansas City’s cowboy history. It has central AC/Heat, a FULL KITCHEN and tons of sunlight. The bathroom is equipped with a stall shower, rainwater shower head, and piping hot water. The open concept can accommodate up to four adult guests and children are also welcome. We will provide local coffee and all the KC recommendations you need for a wonderful stay. There is one QUEEN size bed with name brand mattress, one brand new FULL size bed with new pillows and linens. HISTORY: Our home was built in 1910 as a wedding gift from John G. Shedd (president of Chicago’s Marshall Field Co. and founder of Shedd Aquarium) to his daughter as a wedding gift! The home is known as the “Kersey Coates Reed Residence.” Since then, it was owned by famous baseball player Lynn "Line Drive" Nelson, a Broadway fashion designer, and housed international students attending the KC Art Institute and UMKC. We purchased the residence in the summer of 2022 and are slowly bringing it back to life. Accessibility: The only way to enter the studio is by one standard flight of stairs.
