Monte dos Vagabundos is an 8-hectare property half of which is fenced for our run-free rescue dogs. We are now offering part of the remaining land to animal lovers wanting to spend a unique experience in a gorgeous setting surrounded by nature and open views to the ocean and amazing sunsets/sunrises. All our dogs and pot-belly pigs are very impatient to meet you and welcome you for a big cuddle session, or an early-bird walk around the property, should you look for that type of experience. Our remodeled caravan is a cute cosy little nest (height of ceiling: 190cm), with own kitchenette, a resting/eating area and a double bed of 140x200cm. There is a separate semi-open ablutions block, with a dry toilet (emptied daily) , a hot shower and a washing bassin. In addition to the caravan, we will be setting up a glamping tent in March 2024, should you need more space to sleep (i.e. family, group of friends, etc..). It will have space for 4 people and will be rented separately. The property is located within the Vicentine Coast Natural Park, just 3km away from the center of Sao-Teotonio at the end of a dirt road While the closest restaurants and grocery shopping (Intermarche) are at walking distance for the most sportive (2-3km), we will also be available for lifts to/from town or a trip to/from the beach (Zambujeira do Mar is the closest, 7km away) at very little cost. Both towns have a supermarket and a few restaurant options (Portuguese, Italian, Indian, etc..) While tea/coffee is complementary, we will be offering 'DIY breakfast' left in the caravan the night before (bread/croissant, butter, jam, egg, local cheese, fruit) and 'DIY dinner' (fresh pasta, fresh mushrooms, garlic/oignon/lemon, parmesan, desert) so you can cook & crash ;-). Both options are available at 10 euros per person and must be reserved upon reservation or one day in advance. We will leave bottled water in the caravan but can also organise for other drinks should you ask in advance (wine, beer, fresh orange juice, etc..) The caravan has the basics you will need to cook (oil, vinegar, salt, pepper).

Lucie est une personne adorable, avec qui il est très agréable d'échanger. Les chiens dont elle s'occupe n'aboient pas du tout la nuit. Nous avons passé une nuit super calme. Enfin, n'hésitez-pas à prendre l'option diner et petit déjeuner 'DIY' (à préparer soi-même). C'est très bon et très copieux.
É mesmo um cozy nest! Tudo estava perfeito e o pôr-do-sol no mar foi idílico. A Lucie e o Philip foram super simpáticos e prestáveis. Vamos voltar!

I am very thankful for Lucie for my stay. I had my lovely little spot where everything worked fine. And I was also able to join a bit her life with the dogs and the pigs. Loved to talk with her. It was a great system that she provided the food for breakfast and dinner for me to prepare them. All together it was a great two nights visit. A place from where you don't want to rush away. And it worked well from Fisherman's Trail bcos they came to pick me up and took me back as well.
Our stay at Lucie's Airbnb was truly a gem of a find! Nestled in a serene spot surrounded by nature, this location offered everything we needed to fully unwind. Lucie is an incredibly kind host; we had the pleasure of walking the dogs together, who were just as sweet and friendly. Her work with rescueing the dogs and pigs is very inspiring. The garden is stunning—a beautiful setting to explore and enjoy. The facilities were top-notch, with a warm shower and a toilet boasting a sea view, which was a delightful touch. Watching the sunset with a beer in hand was the perfect way to end the day. The area is very quiet and remote, filled with beautiful flowers and the songs of birds, enhancing the peaceful atmosphere. The caravan itself was clean and the bed extremely comfortable. Highly recommend for anyone looking to escape into nature and enjoy a little peace and tranquility.

ANIMAL INTERACTION
It goes without saying that loving animals is a pre-requisite for coming to our place :-). We will be more than happy to welcome you to our early morning daily walk with all the free doggies, or our piggies cuddling/feeding sessions a bit later or our doggies dinner feeding at night, all 3 wonderful and unique experiences guaranteed. Just let us know when you arrive so we can organise timings.
We welcome doggies treats and/or veggies/fruits for our piggies should you wonder if you can bring anything for them. You can then experiment giving the treat to all the doggies sitting in front of you :-)
ENVIRONMENT/NATURE
This part of Portugal has two seasons, winter (rainy) and summer (dry). We are lucky to live close to the coast so have a much more tempered climate than a few kilometers inland. We are also very lucky to have a land full of water, with a very special biotop (including a marsh, extremely lush in winter with a misture of ferns, reeds, lilies and a large variety of wild flowers) . And the 8 hectares are home to old and young cork and pine trees.
Lots of birds and birds of pray (we even have a nest of stokes on the property with stokes sitting from December to April)
ROTA VICENTINA
We are located 7km from Zambujeira-do-Mar and would be happy to welcome trekkers and your dog(s). We are happy to pick-you up anywhere between Almograve and Odexeice where car access is allowed, for a fee between 10-25 depending on the distance. Our check-in time is twelve, allowing you to stop your walk earlier should you be tired walking or should you want to spend time relaxing at your caravan or walking with our doggies or cuddling our pigs.
SURFERS
We are located in the middle of beautiful beaches which are also high spots for surfers and or body-board (all year, with highlight in automn and spring). Our location allows you to change spots daily :-) - Zambujeira-do-Mar (7km), Carvalhal (15km) and Odeceixe (18km) & Vila nova de Milfontes (28km), Malhao (34km). There are a lot of school options in summer time. Living in our caravan would allow you to let all your equipment dry in the garden and get rinsed with garden water connection
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Various sports / accompanied outings offered by local shops (bike, surf, skate, slack-line, kayak, etc..) in Zambujeira-do-Mar but that needs to be checked in advance as they are not open all-year.
Our animal rescue sanctuary is 8 hectares within the Vicentine Coast Natural Park (Atlantic Ocean), just 2 kilometers away from the little town of Sao-Teotonio, district of Odemira. This region of Portugal is called the 'Alentejo Litoral', as it lays directly north of Algarve, on the south west Atlantic coastline.
You can reach us by car from Lisbon airport in 2h30 or from Faro airport in 1h30.
Car rentals are really affordable in Portugal but should you decide to travel by public transport, you can look for the bus stations of Sao Teotonio (rede expresso), Zambujeira do Mar (rede expresso - or flixbus in summer time), or trainstation Saboia/Santa Clara (comboios de Portugal).
Should you opt for one of the above means of transport, it will be difficult for you to move around as this region of Portugal has a poor public transport network. But the good news is that we can assist with pick-up/drop-off with little advance notice. We will charge for the car (up to 2 people) and the prices will depend on the distance/time needed. As an indication: Sao-Teotonio center: 5 euros, Zambujeira-do-Mar: 10 euros, trainstation of Saboia/Santa Clara: 40 euros, Faro airport: 100 euros, and Lisbon airport: 160 euros.

I am of Swiss origin but lived abroad for over 23 years (humanitarian & hotel management). After 9 years living the dream and running my guesthouse on Ibo/Mozambique, I decided to come back to Europe and settled in south west Portugal a few years ago and created an animal rescue sanctuary. Our new glamping will help fund it. Baobibo is still running, with the daily management in the hands of Albai, Ancha and Momade under my remote assistance.
