West Overton · 整套民居 · 3室5床1.5卫 · 可住5人 · The ultimate fairy-tale cottage
Nestled in the glorious Wiltshire countryside and featured in umpteen style magazines and blogs, Faerie Corner (formally known as Faerie Door Cottage) is beautiful both inside and out. Overlooking fields, the cottage sits on the outskirts of the pretty village of West Overton, in a tranquil semi-walled garden, surrounded by peaceful walks. It's within easy reach of fascinating neolithic sites such as Avebury and Silbury Hill whilst nearby Marlborough also offers restaurants and boutique shops. Sitting in a quintessential cottage garden and once four tiny farmworkers' cottages, Faerie Corner is three to four hundred years old, built largely of Sarsen stone under a thatched roof. Wonderfully thick walls, beautiful old oak beams and the half height "faerie door" leading from the second bedroom into the bathroom bear testimony to its age - as does the handwritten parchment dated 1735 found in the roof during renovation and now displayed framed on the mezzanine. Unlike many old cottages, its ceiling heights are generous and the windows are also a good size, so there's plenty of natural light. Very peaceful and full of history and character, Faerie Corner is a magical place. Enjoy!
We had a wonderful time and would 100% stay here again. The cottage matched the photos and we felt right at home. Fantastically equipped, comfy beds, cozy sitting room - perfect for me, my daughter and dog! The surrounding area was in beautiful, a range of long walks and easy access to Marlborough! Thank you Sam!
We called Debbie to ask if she would meet us on arival. When we arrived, the cottage felt warm and cosy and Debbie had lit the woodburner too. We had a lovely stay and it was just perfect. Many thanks.
This was a beautiful cottage and surrounding village. We had a lovely time and look forward to booking again soon!
The cottage is an area of outstanding natural beauty and there are lots of lovely country walks from the door of the cottage.
Avebury village with its standing stones is about three miles away and we'll worth exploring (many people think it's even more spectacular than Stonehenge which is about half an hour's drive away).
You can also walk or drive to the ancient sites of Silbury Hill and West Kennet Long Barrow which are about two miles away. Salisbury with its beautiful cathedral is about half an hour's drive away and the lovely city of Bath about forty five minutes.
If you like to eat out, The Burj at The Bell is a new and smart Indian restaurant in the village itself and is just five minutes walk away. The Who'd a Thought It (a popular village pub that does food) is in Lockeridge - a ten/fifteen minute pleasant country walk away. You are also just three miles from Marlborough with its boutique shops and range of restaurants including Rick Stein.
Guests will benefit from their own car to fully explore the area which is quite rural, though there is a public bus service of course and a train station at Pewsey (approx nine miles away)
The cottage has its own parking adjoining the house.
There is also roadside parking for a second car but tuck in well as the little country road is very narrow
