We loved this house. In the jungle, hand-made, very chill. Joe was a very attentive host.

Joe's tree house has a very rustic and whimsical vibe. It's clear a lot of love went into the build and decor. Joe was very responsive. It's worth noting the experience may not be for everyone. This is more of a glamping scenario; most of the bathrooms are partially outdoors/open-air, many of house windows are just screens, and plenty of critters make there way inside the home. We saw mosquitos, cockroaches, and geckos in our rooms, so if you can't handle those animals this may not be for you. Most of this is mentioned in the Airbnb description, but easy to pass over. A couple of things not mentioned but we hope can be improved: there were no streetlights or lamps from the gate to the airbnb. After sunset, it is pitch black and challenging to find your way to the rooms without flashlights. Not sure if the community disallows porch lights, but if not it would be a necessary addition. Was exactly the kind of place we were looking for. Very funky/casual and rustic, almost like being in a treehouse or camping. The coqui (frogs) were really noisy but atmospheric some of the nights. Loved being there. The road in and out from Pahoa was a little long (about 20 min each directions) but that added to the sense of remoteness. Would definitely stay there again.

Great spaces for family to spread out, listen to the frogs, enjoy the rain, and relax. Kitchens are equipped and functional, grounds are lush and green. Joe is super responsive and helpful. Perfect down-home launchpad for East-side exploration.

What a fun and unique place to stay. Joe is a GREAT communicator and his place is clean & fun to explore. You could spend 1/2 a day, easy, exploring his home and the surrounding neighborhood, ranging from a castle to huts. It’s a super “earthy” small, but friendly town. The area is off the beaten track and roughly 20-25 min to food areas. Pāhoa was where we chose to stay to visit the Volcano Park, but it turns out it’s about an hour away, due to the back roads to get to this home. Don’t let that deter you though, we ended up having a great time visiting a local fruit farm and doing a jungle hike to Tidepools. If you’re looking for a place you’ll photograph/video and have lots of stories to tell your friends about, this is it! If you’re looking for creature comforts, such as AC or quiet, look elsewhere! The frogs, chickens, birds etc are loud. We did not mind any of that, adventure abounds! Joe is great! Super friendly and accommodating.
