Zipolite [SEE puh LEE teh] was largely isolated from the rest of Mexico before an anarchic camper enclave—a ‘hippie paradise’—formed here in the 1970s.
In its entirety, Zipolite is about 2km long, so there is no need for a car. Taxis and colectivos are abundant.
Eating places, shops, services, craft vendors, and the country’s only nude beach are steps away from CAMP.
When asked why we love Zipolite, we think of its tolerance: anyone is welcome here. The clothing-optional beach scene simply represents the town’s values – it’s an expression of the place, not a tourist attraction. Because of the relative isolation, nudity, rip currents, and few indulgent luxuries; travelers and seekers favor Zipolite more than casual tourists.
We love the rustic sophistication here; chickens on the road, beloved street dogs, electricity outages, coexisting with the urbanity of hissing espresso machines and sublime baguettes. The vegetation, geology, the weather, and how nature changes, is paradisiacal.
