Located 30mins from both Joshua Tree and Palm Springs (west and south, respectively). You could visit the famed National Park by day and be in Palm Springs for dinner by evening. The decor throughout the home showcases a thoughtful blend of iconic furniture, from Eames and Prouve chairs to rustic antiques from Morocco, Mexico and Italy. Personal touches include paintings by the owner himself and branches and florals sourced directly from the desert landscape. With an eclectic collection of books, sculptures, and lighting - each room radiates with unique charm! The bedrooms both have queen beds draped in soft airy linen. The larger room features a Japanese-style platform bed, a portable smart projector for an in-bed cinema experience and direct access to the verdant garden. The second smaller bedroom is cheerful and fresh, adorned with colorful Moroccan fabrics and eclectic sculptures. For culinary enthusiasts, the open plan kitchen is a dream, the floating stucco island with a built in state-of-the-art stove is perfect for entertaining guests while you cook. The kitchen is equipped with All Clad cookware, Fellow appliances for coffee and an array of essentials.
What a beautiful stay, we were happy with everything from arrival to departure! Super comfortable and just remote enough, it was the perfect getaway.
Lovely stay and even better than the pictures! Darren is very responsive and easy to reach out to
Darren’s home was the perfect desert escape for us city dwellers. Nothing compares to the feeling of sipping coffee in the morning with mount Jacinto in the background and surrounded by nature. I can tell Darren put so much thought into this place, and every piece of furniture and decoration was picked with care and attention to detail. He even created a little sitting room next to the living room where you can snuggle up with blankets and pillows while watching movies on the projector (a pleasant surprise given that a TV isn’t included). This place is the perfect middle ground if you’re looking to get away while being just 30 minutes away from Palm Springs and Joshua Tree. We will definitely be back if we’re lucky enough to snag a reservation in the future!
The home is beautiful and filled with amazing furniture/artwork. It was a pleasure looking around and enjoying the resting areas with views of the mountains. Clear instructions were provided and many easy to find necessities.
I had a wonderful stay at Darren’s house. It is beautifully decorated, clean, cosy and in such a peaceful spot with a beautiful view of the mountain range. Super easy to drive into Palm Springs, Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree. A really special house if you’re looking for a calm, peaceful stay but still in driving distance of all the surrounding sights.
The home's central location in Morongo Valley make it a perfect base for exploring California’s famed desert destinations. Both Joshua Tree National Park and Palm Springs are a quick and scenic 30 minute drive away (west and south, respectively).
5 minutes from the house is the Spaghetti Western restaurant, a stately saloon serving classic Italian pastas and apps, cocktails, beer and wine, usually with live entertainment in the evenings. 15 minutes further west is the charming town of Yucca Valley with locally owned restaurants, boutiques, antique stores, and natural wine shops, and bars. Don’t miss any of these: La Copine (breakfast and lunch), The Copper Room (dinner and drinks), Desierto Alto (a curated wine, bottle and snack shop), Frontier Cafe (coffee and breakfast).
No trip to the high desert would be complete without a visit to Pioneertown where you’ll find Pappy and Harriet’s, a legendary music venue and restaurant with Santa Maria style bbq that’s hosted acts from Paul McCartney to Patti Smith. A short walk away is the Red Dog Saloon serving up hearty tex mex and ice cold beer under the sun and stars on giant picnic tables.
29 Palms, the next town over from Joshua Tree, is a 45 minute drive directly from Bonne Chance (15 minutes west of Joshua Tree) and worth a visit if only for a trip to Kitchen in the Desert, a Caribbean-New American restaurant with a fried chicken sandwich and chickpea doubles to write home about.
However, if you just want to pop out for a short adventure, go no further than the Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, a desert oasis with stunning hiking trails (our favorite is the Yucca Ridge trail!), and nature walks led by bird watching enthusiasts, all just a 5 minute drive from the house.
If you happen to be staying on a Thursday, head down the hill to the farmer’s market hosted in the parking lot of the Central Station boutique to pick up fresh fruits and veggies, and be sure to pop into the store itself for some of the area’s best shopping.
