Welcome to Montalbano Apt, in a 16th century stone house in the heart of old town Rovinj. With 3 bedrooms/3 bathrooms, this property impresses with a large terrace, cathedral and sea views. Designed as a maisonette suitable for a group of 6+2 or even two families, it is just a few minutes' walk from everything, restaurants, a little grocery store and a jump into the blue sea. All you need ist litteraly below your feet; but at the same time traffic calmed and peacefully above all noise. My second home is divided into two floors and is on the 2nd and 3rd floor of an old stone house from the 16th century, with a view of the sea at the front and a view of the cathedral at the back. Located on the south side, just 50 meters below the famous Monte restaurant and one street above the famous rock-champagne bar Valentino and restaurant Puntulina, the property is perfect for a relaxed holiday for guests who prefer local flair to impersonal ambience. The floors are beautiful, very old wooden floors; I tried to adapt the look and feel to the largely Italian but also Croatian flair of Rovinj and to my personal needs and those of my guests. The apartment is one of two in the house and starts in the lower area with a studio with a double bed and a good quality pull-out couch and a fully equipped kitchenette. If necessary, a child and 2 adults can be accommodated, or even 4 children, so that two sets of parents can end the evening comfortably upstairs. The attached bathroom has a bathtub and all windows have a sea view. The property can be cross-ventilated throughout and since there is always a light, pleasant wind in Rovinj and the walls are ancient and cool, the air conditioning is nature, even in midsummer. All you have to do is fix the shutters with the wooden beam provided (closed and open) so that they don't hit. A fan can be useful for one day or another, but air conditioning has never been in demand. When you arrive, you'll smile remembering this recommendation, then you'll know what I mean. ;) From the studio you end up on the upper floor, step onto the terrace and with the first view of the sea you feel the feeling of home embrace you. Next to it is the fully equipped kitchen/living room with dining area for 6-8 people, as well as a sofa area that invites you to linger. Dining tables or coffee table can accommodate dining or chilling needs on the terrace. In the back there are two bedrooms, each with a shower bath, one is ensuite. We like to use this home ourselves, but we always welcome friends and guests like you. We are always available to answer any questions, and my dear neighbor Maria also helps out on site with tips and information.

We had the best stay of our vacation here. The views were amazing and felt right at home. Margret is an amazing host and went over and above to help us when our rental car key fob needed a new battery so we could continue on our journey.
The house is so special, unique and comfortable and we felt right at home. It's in a great location, close to a market, restaurants, shopping and the water. Margreth is a wonderful host. She is so helpful and easy to communicate with. Her place is very well cared for. We had a fantastic stay.

Rovigno è una splendida cittadina, ben organizzata. Ci siamo andati fuori stagione e quindi con pochi turisti; non tutte le attività erano aperte ma è stato più che sufficiente. Consiglio in particolare la lunghissima passeggiata pedonale lungo il mare e una visita all'imperdibile isola di Brioni, da girare rigorosamente in bicicletta (ma ci sono anche delle comodissime macchinette elettriche). L'appartamento di Margreth è situato in una casa storica dotata di notevole fascino. E' nella città vecchia, a pochi passi dalla cattedrale e quindi piuttosto in alto; un po' faticoso arrivarci ma questo garantisce un eccellente vista panoramica sul mare, soprattutto dal terrazzino. Pur non essendo sul posto, Margreth si è dimostrata molto reattiva rispetto alle nostre necessità. Si è verificato in particolare un problema con l'energia elettrica, che in nostra assenza è saltata, ma il problema è stato risolto in tempi rapidi anche grazie all'aiuto dei suoi splendidi vicini di casa.

My second home is located directly beneath the Cathedral of St. Eufemia in the picturesque old town of Rovinj. The front has sea view, the back has a view of the cathedral. Located on the south side, just 50 meters below the famous Monte restaurant and one street above the famous rock, champagne bar Valentino, the property is perfect for a relaxed holiday just 5.5 hours by car from Vienna, 1 hour from Trieste airport and 45 from Pula airport away.
The stairs to the entrance of the house is one of the most photographed points of view of the cathedral, especially when the flowers are in bloom and in the evening with the church tower illuminated. Rovinj's old town can only be accessed by car for delivery purposes and is also a pedestrian zone. You can get around town on foot or by bike. These are available in good numbers and quality as city- or mountain bikes and can be rented cheaply by the hour or day. Luggage is transported by golf cart or the municipality's luggage taxi.
Rovinj is one of the most beautiful towns in the Mediterranean and, in addition to excellent restaurants and many great boutiques, art and culture as well as sports opportunities and plenty of swimming fun. There is a rowing club in town, a diving station, natural rocks for climbing, endless running routes through the pine forest, cycling routes e.g. along the old K&K railway line through Istria, beaches with paid loungers in the beach clubs but, even more beautiful, the natural loungers are easily accessible on foot or by bike. The closest swimming spot to the apartment is directly in the alley below.
Rovinj is suitable for a holiday from the end of March to right after New Years. Tasting young wine in one of the numerous, excellent wineries and visiting oil presses are lavishly inviting. It's also wonderful in April when the first rays of sunshine make the water sparkle and you can have a cosy breakfast outside overlooking the ocean. In June there is Salsa Festival, live music in many places that never disturbs the night's sleep, because not long after midnight the chairs fold up in the city's bars. Rovinj is different, has a special aura and everyone who has been here, likes to come back again and again.
In September there is the media festival, the fiesta of St. Eufemia, there are wine and cycling festivals. The museum and the city hall offer exhibitions by well-known artists, including old masters that you would not expect to be there. Advent and the Christmas market and the ice skating rink on the main square until New Year's Eve attract many Austrians and Italians. It is atmospheric, cold but not bitterly cold. The city (rovinj-tourism) has a very good events calendar on the internet... get inspired!
