Sleeping six guests, this spacious and beautifully furnished property is set in the lovely Matterdale Valley, with wonderful views from all the main rooms. Ullswater is within 4 miles and there is a wealth of walks on your doorstep. There are spectacular views across the fells throughout the barn, which retains original features such as beams and a part-exposed stone wall in the spacious lounge. A lovely, light-filled room, it has floor-to-ceiling windows, with comfortable sofas where you can relax in front of the wood burner and enjoy the view. There is a streamlined kitchen, and the adjoining dining room has more splendid views. Upstairs are a family bathroom and three welcoming bedrooms with tranquil interiors, perfect for a peaceful night’s sleep. There are two king-size bedrooms with countryside views, and a bunk bedroom. Outside, a raised patio with seating overlooks the fells and is a great spot to dine alfresco. The barn is just 1 mile from Aira Force waterfall, fed by the Aira Beck as it thunders over boulders. Once an 18th-century pleasure ground, the National Trust landmark has woodland trails and a well-maintained path up to the dramatic, 20m waterfall. You can also arrive on an Ullswater Steamer from Glenridding (4 miles). There are four hop-on-and-off piers around the lake—a great way to explore this scenic landscape. Historic Dalemain Mansion (7 miles) is a fine stately home with 5 acres of colourful gardens to wander. Attractions in Keswick (13.5 miles) include Theatre by the Lake and Kong Adventure Centre, with fun indoor and outdoor activities for all ages.
