South Creake is a delightful village in the valley of the River Burn. It is located inland but still only a fifteen-minute drive from the stunning beaches on the Norfolk Coast It is also only a couple of miles from Georgian market town of Burnham Market with its many independent shops, galleries, pubs, restaurants, and cafes.
There is a lovely village green in the centre with a play park for children, tennis courts and football pitch. One of its best features are the wayside stalls set up in the summer that sell locally grown produce, cakes and samphire (otherwise known as ‘poor man's asparagus'). The village pub, The Ostrich Inn, specialises in fine local and seasonal dishes.
Nearby is Creake Abbey which boasts an award-winning Farmer's market and shops set amongst the peaceful ruins.
Wine enthusiasts should definitely head to Burn Valley Vineyard. Amble down the vine rows before heading back to the winery to sample their fantastic latest vintages accompanied by a charcuterie platter.
Sir John Betjeman (former Poet Laurate) loved the large mediaeval The Church of our Lady St Mary in the village. These days it is home to The Yorke Trust which promotes arts and music to young people and each year they host the North Norfolk Music Festival which presents concerts by international musicians.
