Clear Creek County · 整个房源 · 1室6床0.5卫 · 可住9人 · Ravens Nest, A High-Alpine Hut in the Mountains
An off-grid hut in the high alpine environment of Grays and Torreys Mountains, notable 14'ers. Beautifully updated, rustic decor without electricity, running water or WiFi - a true peaceful respite! Quiet and remote, surrounded by grand mountains and beautiful scenery. Cozy up by the heat of the wood burning stove or go for a skin or snowshoe. Sleeps 7-9 in beds. IMPORTANT: The hut is only accessible by vehicle in summer, and you must have AWD or 4WD. IN WINTER THE HUT IS NOT ACCESSIBLE BY VEHICLE; you snowshoe or ski tour the 3 miles and 1400 vertical feet to the hut on the closed 4x4 trail. (Inquire about our snowcat to haul gear.) Guests must bring their own sleeping bags and pillowcases. Hut shoes/slippers are also nice to have. The hut is "self-clean"; leave it as found or better! The $250 cleaning fee will be fully, partially, or not returned dependent on condition of hut upon your departure. You enter the hut into an enclosed open space (eventually this will be the new kitchen!) that is great for storing luggage and other items. The bathroom is in this room, and further down the hall is a "bunk room" with a double-over-double bunk bed. The main living space is 12'x12' and includes three twin beds that double as seating/couches during the day. There is a woodstove for heat. One of the first things to do upon arrival is get a fire going. The next thing to do is send someone for water at the nearby Spring, creek or by melting snow in the large water pot on the woodstove. In winter, the Spring is about a 5 minute walk up the road, marked by a bamboo at the trail off the right side of the road just after the neighboring driveway on the left. We provide two large 5 gallon jugs for collecting water, and a sled to help carry the load. There is a small kitchenette set up with a bucket sink (bucket, as well as ALL water, must be emptied before checking out), utensils for cooking, silverware, dishware, pots, pans, teapot, french press, strainer, towels and/or paper towels, etc. It's not a bad idea to bring disposable plates and bowls to minimize dishes. Upstairs is accessed via an outdoor staircase and is another 12'x12' room with beautiful views and a king size bed. It is heated via the fire downstairs, and stays nice and cozy.
The Raven's Nest exceeded all of our expectations, from the amazing views out every window and the warm, bright, eclectic decorations to the cozy gathering area, plentiful cookware and warm wood stove we kept exclaiming "this place is the best!". We were a group of adults plus a 6 month old baby and felt comfortable to spread ourselves through the 2 bedroom areas and main living area. The skin in is straightforward and long enough to make you feel like you've worked for it. We did a casual ski tour through the beginning of the Greys/Torreys trails and you are rewarded with beautiful rugged mountain views for relatively low effort. It is such a luxury to be able to get spring water even in the winter vs. the time and effort required to melt snow. We definitely plan to return and look forward to enjoying the deck in the summer months.
Awesome hut! It was easy to find and the trails nearby leave you with a ton of options for skiing. We enjoyed our trip!
A truly gorgeous cabin on an even more gorgeous mountain. Really enjoyed cooking on the wood burner and being able to make a quick hike the the base of a 14er! Owners were very responsive and helpful. Couldn’t think of a better place to unplug and immerse myself in nature.
The hut is located just before the trailhead for Grays and Torreys mountains. There are several other cabins/huts nearby, but not within eyesight of our hut, and they are rarely used. The neighborhood is quiet, especially in winter, save for the folks who come to enjoy the snow and trail. In summer, especially on weekends, many hikers pass by the hut on the 4x4 road.
In summer the hut is accessible via Steven's Gulch Road which is a very rocky, partially maintained 4x4 trail. It is 3 miles from I-70 to the hut on this 4x4 trail. AWD or 4WD vehicles with high clearance are STRONGLY recommended, basically required. We occasionally see 2WD vehicles on the road, but damage is often incurred!
In winter the 4x4 trail is closed. Guests must park at Bakerville (exit 221 on I-70), then snowshoe or ski tour the 3 miles to the hut. It is about a 1.5-2 hour walk. Several people and the occasional snowmobile use the trail, so there is almost always a set track unless you're the first one in after a storm.
Inquire about our Tucker snocat to haul gear at an additional cost.
自我介绍
My husband, three sons and I live in the mountains in Colorado during the winter and on the Mississippi River in Illinois in the summer. I teach yoga, coach skiing, and love the outdoors. Traveling and discovering new places makes my heart happy. Food is a big part of my life - growing, foraging, cooking and eating.
