The Watchhouse was a perfect choice for our weekend in Malin Head. We contacted Angela and Phil whilst having breakfast close by and they were both friendly and flexible allowing us to meet up for the keys do we could carry on with our plans for the day in the surrounding areas. They both were on hand for any questions we had about the house. The house is very well equipped. We enjoyed the views whilst lighting the fire which made the house feels so very cosy. The house is so very quiet and peaceful. It’s within a short walk from the pier with views of the fishing boats. Binoculars provided gave us a great view of Inistrahul island. The extremely short walk to Ireland’s most northerly pub where food is served until 4pm and a fab pool table and then a slight longer walk ( 4mins) to a shop come pub come restaurant makes the area have everything you need. We had two young adult children with us who enjoyed the short break too. The local people are very friendly and helpful.
Just returned from a x3 night stay in des place. What a house, location is absolutely perfect, short walk to farrens pub craic is 90, seaview tavern restaurant, local shop, pier and beach. We were blessed with lovely weather during our stay which made the view from the living room window even more spectacular. Definitely a gem of a house. Great communication from des and angela and no issues here to mention. Booked for another stay before we checked out. Definitely a great base for exploring donegal and wild alpaca way is a must for a visit.
Beautiful house with fantastic views. We had a few very wet blustery cold days but it was lovely to sit in the warm living room looking out over the harbour and sea. There was everything in the house, kitchen and bathrooms that you would need. Lovely gardens round the house. Host was very helpful. Farrans Bar was a short dander from the house and food was very good. Seaview tavern was a few minutes drive away and again food was delicious. Grocery shop was next door to tavern and had all you needed. We would definitely be back again, hopefully when the weather was a bit better.
We had a lovely stay at Des's place. Stunning location and the house had everything we needed, a stone thrown away from the local pub and the beach. Huge thanks to Angela who was very accommodating, especially when we arrived late on the first night. Thanks so much for everything , we had a great time.🥰
The Watchhouse is such a beautiful place with a stunning view. The house is really big with 3 bedrooms and bathrooms, there is everything you need (basic ingredients) in the kitchen to cook. Nigel and Des are very pro-active, Nigel was waiting for us as we arrived late (09.00 PM) and told him at almost the latest moment. There is a fire place which we used 2 evenings. This is the perfect place to relax. But not only as the pub is next to the house! as well as a restaurant and grocery. The area is beautiful, we walked to Malin Head and met irish people really friendly, as they all are! Thank you Des and Nigel for everything. Christine, Pauline and Laura.
Malin Head is blessed with beaches and is paradise for outdoor enthusiasts. There’s so much to do - hiking, swimming, fishing, diving and boat trips including to visit the lighthouse of Inistrahull. Within 30 minutes by car are the Doagh Famine Village, Greencastle Maritime Museum, Fort Dunree and Glenevin Waterfall. Derry City and its famous Walls and great shopping is only 45 mins away. The views on the drive…or 90 minute walk … around the Head itself are stunning and include the rocky site of a Star Wars episode and an Alpaca farm.
Portmore beach (100m) and Pier and Sandport are a short walk from the house. Farren’s bar and lunches (12 to 4pm) is 50m door to door; Seaview Tavern bar/restaurant/shop/Post Office is a short walk; Coastline Café and Community Centre is less than a mile by road. Free parking everywhere
