Where traditional character meets modern luxury – that’s where you’ll find Duxhams. This former hunting lodge promises sumptuous comfort for groups of up to 19 and its breathtaking location on the edge of Exmoor means you don’t have to choose between coast or country. Head to the rolling hills, strike out for the seaside or just kick back in the house’s expansive grounds, whatever suits your mood. Attention has been given to every element at Duxhams. Plush furnishings and soft leather sofas invite you to curl up or stretch out. In the sophisticated public rooms, there are lots of airy spaces and cosy nooks for everyone in your party to find a favourite spot. A well-appointed kitchen, complete with Aga, has all the necessities you’ll need for preparing a feast. The spacious open-plan dining area is the perfect place for celebratory meals. Afterwards, retire to the generous living room and luxuriate in the warmth of the wood burner while you play games, catch up with old friends and propose a toast or two. On the two upper floors, you’ll find eight en-suite bedrooms, wide-open valley views draw you in as you throw open the curtains in the morning. Seven rooms have king-sized or double beds, while the eighth is a dorm to sleep five children. Tucked in the eaves and featuring sturdy exposed beams, it’s the perfect hideaway for midnight feasts and swapping tall tales by moonlight.
Thank you so much for making our weekend so very special. Duxham's is a totally fab house large but still has a real cosy feel. so much thought has gone into every room in the house and the outside space is the same. Would most definitely recommend. We have visited Dulverton many times great walking, lovely little town/village. Woods in Dulverton is worth a visit for food (but need to book), great butchers, bakers and green grocer, The Bridge is also good. Once again a big thank you we all loved it!!!
Upon arrival at Duxhams why not take advantage of the private and peaceful location and detach yourself from the stresses of modern day life.
Get all your groceries delivered to the property or wander into Dulverton for freshly baked croissants, bread and take-out treats.
The busy little town of Dulverton village is the southern gateway to Exmoor National Park and an excellent place for indulging in a cream tea, tucking into lunch at a gastro pub or sipping a glass of wine as you watch the world go by. If you fancy a spot of browsing, there are independent boutiques and galleries exhibiting local art to discover.
Exmoor National Park is, of course, the star attraction of the area. Sheep graze the bracken and there are plenty of birds for keen spotters to spy. To see iconic Exmoor ponies and elusive red deer, take a guided tour of the moor. The wilderness of the rugged landscape invites you to follow one of the many trails through wooded valleys to rocky outcrops where you can fill your lungs with the freshest of air. There’s a walk to suit every level of fitness, with a favourite being the stroll up to Dunkery Beacon. Here, at the park’s highest point, you can see the picture-perfect landscape of Devon and Somerset unfurled below you.
Leisurely days out can be spent at the pretty seaside village of Porlock or the bustling harbour town of Watchet, both of which offer access to outstanding coastal scenery. Or head to Dunster, a beautifully preserved example of a medieval village, complete with a timber-framed market hall, ruined priory and fairy-tale castle.
The property is easily accessed via road and Tiverton Parkway is 25 minutes away with direct trains from London Paddington taking around 2 hours.
