Mae Cottage enjoys open views across the stunning countryside of Arkengarthdale, famed for its many scenes in James Herriot’s All Creatures Great and Small. This traditional, stone-built semi-detached cottage has surrounding views across unspoilt countryside. Beautifully restored to a high standard it offers a high level of comfort, perfect for friends or families enjoying a getaway in a peaceful and tranquil setting. With oak floors and beams giving a feeling of calm and relaxation, the spacious living room invites you to curl up around the wood burner set within an inglenook fireplace and enjoy quality time with your family or friends. From the living room is a separate dining room and an area which can be used as a handy workstation should you need it. Seven steps down into a well-equipped farmhouse style kitchen, with range cooker and all the necessary appliances you will need, there’s even a coffee maker for your morning latte. There is a separate utility room with a washer/dryer and sink and a downstairs toilet completes this floor. Outside is a private courtyard garden with far reaching views across the dale. A beautiful tranquil spot to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet or in the warmer months gather outside and dine al fresco. There is an outside drying/boot room and storage for cycles. To the front of the cottage is a small lawned garden, this looks out across open countryside and a great spot to catch the last of the sunshine. The first floor offers three bedrooms all with stunning views, a twin room, a kingsize with beautiful luxury mattress, then down two steps into another kingsize with sumptuous soft furnishings and bedding, you’ll soon relax and unwind. Arkengarthdale is ever popular with walkers. The wild, rugged and varied scenery provides miles of walks, both low-level, through the hamlets of Whaw and Langthwaite offering gentle strolls along the river and more challenging high-level walks. With high mountains and valleys lined with streams, there are endless footpaths around the most spectacular scenery. The area is increasingly popular with cyclists and the nearby Dales Bike Centre offers cycle hire. The ’Swale Trail’ runs from Reeth to Keld and is ideal for families. At the end of a long day of exploring, the cottage is within a short stroll of the local 18th century Inn serving local ales and an excellent selection of food. Just 7 miles further, the road climbs slowly up the valley to eventually reach the highest pub in England, the Tan Hill Inn. There are an abundance of places to visit from here. Reeth, with a pub serving good food within 1 mile, cafés, gift shop and ice cream parlour, is just 3 miles away. The historic town of Richmond, famous for its castle and Georgian theatre, is around a 30-minute drive, or make a journey over the Stang to the market town of Barnard Castle, with a bustling high street, independent shops, restaurants, antique shops and famous Bowes Museum. Driving across into Wensleydale takes you to the market towns of Hawes and Leyburn, with a host of attractions located in the surrounding area. The Forbidden Corner in Middleham is only 16 miles away. The picturesque Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle are on route, with many other pretty picture postcard villages to discover as you pass through. Free WiFi Can comfortably fit up to 6 people
