Moretonhampstead · 袖珍小屋 · 1室1床1.0卫 · 可住2人 · Coombe Top Cabin, sleeps 2, Dartmoor, Devon.
Set in the beautiful Teign Valley, Coombe Top Cabin sits on the edge of Fingle woods (Woodland Trust), with miles of woodland walks from the bottom of our drive. The cabin sleeps 2 with all the amenities & great wifi. Fully equipped kitchen where you can cook all those special goodies you bought on the way here. Sit under a canopy of trees in the wild flower garden & watch the visiting deer herd. Large back porch for rainy days and Summer evenings. Sincere apologies but NO pets or children. The cabin is set in our private woodland which borders Fingle Woods. By crossing one lane you have access to miles of Woodland Trust owned tracks which meander through the valley. Very much off the beaten track & incredibly beautiful. The cabin has everything you need for a comfy, relaxing stay. It was built using timber which was grown and milled here on the property.
We had the best stay here, a perfect start to our holiday, I think if you are going to unwind anywhere it’s here. It’s warm, cute, cosy and quiet. There’s gorgeous views from the windows lay in bed or sitting in the living area, of trees and a clearing beyond where we regularly saw deer and the sound of birds was so relaxing. The cabin had everything; comfy bed, good wifi, great shower, fully equipped kitchen and it was spotlessly clean which we really appreciated. We loved spending time at the cabin just as much as going out and exploring, we had some wet and windy weather but with such nice views it didn’t matter, you could stay in and relax and there is a covered porch. We did the walk suggested in the welcome book to castle drogo from the cabin which was lovely to be able to go somewhere without driving. Overall lovely stay and we really hope we can stay again in the future, thank you!
Our third stay. Loved it as much as the first. If you are looking for peace and quiet, great walks and just being in nature this is the place to stay. Jon and Ren are great hosts who respect your privacy but make sure to communicate brilliantly. We’ll be back again for sure
We loved our stay. The wonderful wild woodland garden with birdsong all day, the private aspect, all the little touches and attention to detail. We plan to return.
This was an absolutely perfect escape. Surrounded by nature and the sounds of birds. A beautiful and very comfortable cabin. Would highly recommend and will definitely be returning.
We love the seclusion of home as well as its natural beauty. The Moors are all around us with Mardon moor being just over a miles gentle walk away (down the drive, turn left). But there are pockets of moorland everywhere as well as Dartmoor in all its glory. Wooded valleys and pretty villages and the sea only 40 minutes drive away.
Moretonhampstead (3 miles away) has a delicatessen, local butcher, small but well stocked co-op, grocers shop, Italian pizza restaurant, newsagents, ice-cream parlour, historic motor museum, chemist, post office, hairdressers, gift shop, tourist information centre, various pubs, etc. Its a small, ancient, thriving moorland town.
We are surrounded by beautiful villages, Chagford, Drewsteignton, Tedburn St Mary, Lustleigh, North Bovey, Dunsford and more, all within 3 to 6 miles of home. If you want to stay off the roads you can literally walk a stones throw through Fingle woods to the Iron Age Fort which our land borders, down to the Teign river for lunch or drinks at The Anglers rest pub at Fingle Bridge, up the Hunters path to National Trust Castle Drogo for cream tea. All with barely a patch of tarmac in sight, all day!
The Devon coastline is part of the south west coastal path with amazing walks past hidden coves and areas of outstanding natural beauty.
Our land is situated in Hitchcombe Wood, part of the vast network which make up Fingle Woods. I have copied this extract from The Woodland Trust website for you below:
"Fingle Woods lies along 10km (6.2 miles) of Dartmoor’s craggy Teign Valley, tucked into the northern fringes of Dartmoor.
Bordered by two National Trust properties (Castle Drogo and Steps Bridge), Fingle Woods covers 334 hectares (825 acres), in northern Dartmoor on the side of the steep Teign Valley, near Dunsford.
Wander through 45km (28 miles) of new trails, take in spectacular views and discover its history. Explore the sun-dappled glades, spot wildlife and uncover intricate woodland archaeology. See if you can spot the iridescent blue of the kingfisher as it darts along the bank of the river Fingle, which gurgles and sparkles on its route through the woods. Listen for the rap of a woodpecker and the splash of an otter. Look for the ever-changing wildflowers, from carpets of ramsons and wood anemone to wild daffodils and bluebells, and discover the magic found here at Fingle.
The site is made up of eight different woods, which we jointly own and manage with the National Trust in the first venture of its kind between us. In one of our largest woodland restoration projects ever, we are nursing it back to health and reclaiming it for nature and people."
Search online for 'Woodland Trust, Fingle Woods' to read more, including local wildlife to spot during your stay.
All of this and more is waiting for you at Coombe Top Cabin.
There are car parks in all the surrounding villages with buses running from Moretonhampstead, Chagford and Dunsford. Exeter, a very beautiful ancient Cathedral city is just 11 miles away with a train station which covers the whole country. Do visit local village names as well as Exeter via internet search to find out all of the many attractions the area holds.
