Great location, and clearly a well-loved space, full of memories, old books and records, and children's art. It was nice to be able to amble across the train tracks (there were trains about twice daily, including overnight) down to the tiny beach on the lake. However, it definitely had a few rough edges. It's a slightly more open space than we anticipated -- tight spiral staircases and loft-ladders are the only way between the levels, and sound travels between all the bedrooms (the walls don't quite meet the ceilings, by design -- I'm sure this helps airflow). The oven was a great appliance, but the outdoor grill wouldn't ignite and the dishwasher was precarious -- it was not actually mounted to the countertop, and it would tip forward when opened. These appliances issues have an easy maintenance fix, but future renters should be aware of the lofty floorplan and open bedrooms as both features and cautions, built-in parts of the cabin's intentional but idiosyncratic design.

My family loved our stay at this lakehouse! It is a perfect place to enjoy the natural beauty of Maine, with great lake access and views of Katahdin. The gear library in Millinocket had great values on emrenting paddleboards and canoes, so our family spent a week on the water while the weather allowed, then we played board games and read books in between. The house is amazing, especially for families who like to read - there are many books and great places to read on every level of the house for book lovers of all ages. The kids reading room up on the third floor is adorable. Though spacious, the house is also intimate and we always felt connected to the famil. Kim and Renee were great hosts and we had no major issues - we highly recommend this property for quiet family time on a gorgeous Maine lake.

This home is exceptional in every way. The layout and design has a artistic tree house feel with a homey vibe. A ton of thought was put into this house design and it shows. There were nooks to read a book but large areas for family dinners and games. Photographs don’t give the views justice and the west facing sunsets are nothing short of ethereal. The beach for the kids to swim and play from sunup to sundown was incredible. We rented a pontoon boat from Josh at Lakeside Rental and rented a slip from 5 Lakes Marina a short drive away and it was a week of entertainment. We couldn’t get the kids out of the water and the relaxing environment was a fantastic break for the adults. The kitchen was perfectly stocked with everything you could need. If you’d like to take the night off, Lynne at Crave Maine Catering was stellar, as well as Scootic In. Pizza from Angelo’s was fantastic. Instructions around the house were clear and helpful. 10 out of 10 would stay again. Thank you Renee and Kim!

We had a really great time by the lake! We love all the cool arts and wood pieces in the house. The openness of the space allowed a lot of good bonding and conversations. The view is amazing. The sunset lighting is amazing! We took a lot of cool pictures by the railway and by the rocks by the beach. Hope we can come back for more stays!
