Welcome to a budding arts and agricultural space on the James River. Explore five acres being converted into a sustainable food forest and a historic home updated with vintage decor. MidMountain is an arts and agricultural community in constant growth. The grounds feature a three-story brick home dating back to the 1700s, multiple outbuildings including an old brick storefront and a barn-style two-car garage/workshop with loft, as well as nearly five acres of outdoor space with mowed trails that is suitable for events or installations and access to 400 feet of private frontage on the James River. Part of our grounds are currently being replanted with native trees and shrubs to form a sustainable food forest. We are an LGBTQ and BIPOC friendly space. In line with our themes, there is art—some of which is available for purchase—as well as a several houseplants and tanks with aquatic critters around the the house. (Check out the tanks for fish, crawdads, salamanders, snails, and newts!) The main house includes sleeping for up to 12 to across 3 bedrooms and shared areas, 2.5 bathrooms, an open concept kitchen and den area with dining space, a library, and art gallery/theater. The house features zoned heating and cooling, laundry, modern kitchen appliance with dishwasher, and will be stocked with basic necessities and clean linens during your stay. Highspeed (200MBPS) WiFi service is available throughout the main house. We are working to increase the general accessibility on the property. Currently, accessing the main house requires climbing three steps via the side-entry. A half-bathroom, double futon, and twin futon are available on the first floor, as are the kitchen, gallery/music room, and main eating and living spaces. Accessing the bedrooms, library, and full bathrooms require climbing one flight of stairs. The third floor attic will be locked and not be accessible during rentals. The gallery/theater space includes a rotating set of exhibits, a projector, a convertible twin futon, beanbags and cushions for seating as well as and a semi-permanent installation of artifacts from legendary Washington, DC-area recording studio Inner Ear — including the rug from the engineering room and piano from the studio. Please note that this is an arts retreat space that also serves as a private residence when not rented and you may encounter longterm occupant items in the fridge or storage areas.
