Paynesville is in the heart of the Gippsland Lakes & Mariners Cove is in the heart of Paynesville. 3.5 hr drive from Melbourne on the M1 Highway & 5 hours south of Canberra (along the coast). Tucked away at the end of the Esplanade opposite the Raymond Island ferry overlooking the McMillan Straits waterways.
There are so many waterways to explore – Lakes, rivers, beaches & canals. Known for it’s great outdoors, East Gippsland offers diverse opportunities for nature lovers in flora, fauna, walks, drives, fishing, as well as boating, kayaking & waterside dining. The closes boat ramp is at the Gippsland Lakes Yacht club just 100m from the Apartment with Mariners Cove jetties for hire ($11 per day).
Raymond Island is one of the best places in Australia to see koalas in their natural habitat & the Raymond Island ferry leaves from the Paynesville Esplanade to Raymond Island every 20 minutes (when you travel as a pedestrian or cyclist it is free). Our guests fall in love with Paynesville for it’s down to earth village charm, waterways, mild climate and of course we are home to the Award Winning Chef hatted Sardine Dining (now offering Sardine Cantina).
The 90 mile beach is a pristine stretch of uninterrupted dune that separates the Gippsland Lakes & Bass Strait. You can access the 90 mile beach by boat via Ocean Grange & Steamer Landing or by road at Lakes Entrance footbridge.
The newly opened Metung Hot Springs are a 20 minute boat ride or a 40 minute car drive.
The Lakes are great for swimming offering salt/fresh water. We love swimming & SUPing at the Paynesville Esplanade, Sunset Cove, Eagle Point or Newlands Arm beach. There are beautiful walks & bike rides along both the foreshore, the Mitchell River Silt Jetties & the East Gippsland Rail Trail.
